#Edison's Illuminating Legacy: A Journey Beyond Patents
In the late 19th century, Thomas Edison's invention of the incandescent light bulb not only lit up the world but also sparked a #legacy that transcends the boundaries of #patents. While the #patent for his revolutionary #invention expired after 20 years, Edison's impact on the world of innovation and illumination remains timeless.
Edison, often hailed as the "Wizard of Menlo Park," patented the light bulb in 1879, paving the way for a new era of productivity and convenience. However, as the patent clock ticked away, Edison's true brilliance revealed itself not in the exclusivity of his invention but in the lasting #influence it had on generations to come.
Beyond the legal confines of patents, Edison's legacy is etched in the very fabric of #innovation culture. His relentless pursuit of solutions, tireless experimentation, and countless failures before success are all part of the narrative that continues to inspire inventors and entrepreneurs today.
In the fast-paced world of LinkedIn, Edison's story serves as a reminder that true greatness is not bound by the #expiration of #patents but by the enduring impact of one's contributions. Inventors and professionals alike can draw inspiration from Edison's ability to adapt, evolve, and leave an indelible mark on history.

Great to see that Norwegian Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Støre and Norwegian Minister of Energy, Terje Aasland paying tribute to HydrogenPro and our contribution to de-carbonization.
Norway can take a role as a leading nation in green hydrogen and not keep focusing on just blue hydrogen.

The Problem
Current #lithiumion batteries can take several hours to recharge, and even the fast-charging of EVs takes over 30 minutes. With consumers seeing long charging times as a barrier to purchase, the need for faster charging and higher power batteries has never been greater.
The Challenge
The founders of #Nyobolt Ltd, including Prof Clare Grey, #UniversityofCambridge and Principal Investigator of the #FaradayInstitution project on extending battery life, discovered and developed a new #niobium-based anode material with unparalleled fast charge and high-power capability that could solve such problems. The company founded in 2019 has embarked on the journey to fully commercialise its technology.
Typically, new battery material discoveries are demonstrated in the laboratory using small coin cells but, whilst these can point towards future potential and help understand the underlying properties, demonstration in industrially relevant cells is essential. With this transition to larger and more representative cells comes challenges in both the quantities of reliable, consistent materials needed and in the development and manufacture of #prototype devices. In these cells, challenges lie in adapting conventional electrode and cell design to the additional demands necessitated by higher currents, cell heating and novel operating conditions. Such challenges must be overcome for these cells to fulfil their promise of a step change in fast charging and the whole new class of applications that capability can create.
Through the Faraday Institution Industry Fellowship that began in 2019, Dr Alex Roberts of Coventry University’s Cell Prototyping Laboratory has worked closely with the Nyobolt team to help deliver the transition from small lab cell to full prototype demonstrator cells. The prototyping and high-power testing facilities as well as experience available at #Coventry, combined with the expertise and experience in cell development in both Nyobolt and Coventry, have resulted in a rapid progression to industrial pouch and cylindrical cell builds. This has demonstrated the potential of Nyobolt’s materials in commercially relevant cells. The ongoing collaboration is enabling initial prototypes to be further developed and tailored to specific applications to meet future customers’ needs.
The prototype devices developed under this programme were essential to demonstrate the potential of Nyobolt’s technology and, in so doing, helped secure a £8m Series A investment for Nyobolt early in 2021. This investment helps to ensure the continued future growth of Nyobolt, to build battery technology leadership in the #UK and to enhance the battery supply chain in the UK.

Yesterday was Nationaler Zukunftstag!
This day offers pupils a great opportunity to get insight into professional fields and work processes and to inspire and enthuse them about possible career paths at an early stage.
This day is not only a great added value for pupils, but also for companies: The exchange generates fresh perspectives and innovative ideas and is an investment in the next generation of talent.
To celebrate this, we had the great pleasure of meeting Tomasz at Elli yesterday. Tomasz is a passionate developer in his spare time and explained to us how the capacity of batteries can be measured using a test set-up he developed himself. Why is this important? Knowing the useful life of batteries can help when considering how, where and for how long they can be used and reused. This leads to lower resourceconsumption and less waste. Sustainability, costeffectiveness and environmental compatibility are the keywords here.
Tomasz is 13 and is in the 7th grade. However, he explained this all just like an experienced professional. We are still impressed by his passion and motivation! It's not just about the technology that Tomasz deals with, but above all about his intention to make a sustainable contribution to our world and our future.
The day showed us once again how important the exchange of knowledge is and how much fun it is to share visions and values between generations.
Tomasz, it was great to have you here yesterday!
You really electrified us!⚡

It is not surprising that in the transition from an industrial society with its characteristic huge expenditure of energy, capital and labor to a society with highly developed technology, for which the critical resources are information and technological innovation, new scientific models of the world inevitably emerge (Isabelle Stengers).

Technische Universität Graz (TU Graz) has been granted approval by the FFG Austrian Research Promotion Agency to lead the new COMET K1 centre "𝗕𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆𝟰𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲." This initiative focuses on enhancing battery safety, extending their service life, and improving sustainability.
The project, supported by an investment of about 19 million euros from the FFG, the provinces of Styria and Upper Austria, and industry partners, will be conducted over four years. Key contributions include 6.5 million euros from the FFG, 2.6 million euros from Styria, and 0.6 million euros from Upper Austria, with the remainder coming from industry partners.
The centre will build on previous work from the COMET project SafeLIB and will utilize state-of-the-art facilities at the Battery Safety Center Graz. The initiative will also explore the reuse of decommissioned batteries as stationary power storage units. The project brings together international academic and industrial partners from eight countries, including notable corporations like AUDI AG, BMW Group, and Porsche AG.

🌟 As we pursue becoming one of the Great Regions in the Great Lakes, we learn from the success of others and apply the lessons to propel Greater Cleveland’s continued growth. Our strengths and potential are clear.
🏙 Last year, we initiated the All In Plan for the region. The plan identifies key priorities, metrics to measure progress, and most important, an “All In” approach – a restoring of Cleveland’s partnership approach – that defines how we must work together to realize our potential.
📈 Though the plan is still early in execution, the region is starting to see significant wins:
➡ In manufacturing and materials, major expansions by Ford Motor Company, Swagelok, Lincoln Electric, Avery Dennison, General Motors-LG Electronics and Sherwin-Williams and others are underway, complemented by Case Western Reserve University and Akron being designated as federal innovation hubs in these fields.
➡ In health care, Cleveland Clinic is expanding facilities, University Hospitals is launching new business ventures, and Canon Inc. Healthcare established its U.S. headquarters here; all are growing in our innovation district.
➡ NASA Glenn Research Center continues to expand; and our airports have gained new flights, a Frontier crew hub, and new carriers such as Alaska Airlines and Aer Lingus.
