I am beyond excited to join American University - Kogod School of Business and School of Public Affairs, American University! #Sustainability solutions are often at the intersection of organization strategy and public policy. The Uvalde Leader-News recently summarized the IC2 Institute at The University of Texas at Austin's presentation to the leadership of Uvalde, TX, https://lnkd.in/gWnMkB78, defining community challenges and offering strategies to use economic opportunity to enhance the well-being of all community members. Community recovery from collective trauma requires economic security for its residents. This finding by Monica Muñoz-Martinez, Noel Busch-Armendariz, Gloria Gonzalez-Lopez and Caitlin Sulley, LMSW prompted the study Jasmine Wright and I recently completed. Opportunities presented to Uvalde leadership include: 1) Uvalde becoming THE Healthcare Hub southwest of San Antonio; and 2) Uvalde developing a 365 Agriculture strategy linked to locally-made and branded craft products for sale throughout Hill Country. These and other proposed initiatives seek to draw visitors into Uvalde and support local businesses starts and growth. Further, engaging students can simultaneously build: 1) shared ownership of a community's future among its youth, and 2) improve external awareness, through Outreach and Marketing Interns, and curaton of visitor experiences through Student Ambassadorships. All projects seek to improve talent retention in the community and new job creation for those who are economically vulnerable. Our graduate programs are certainly part of this plan as we look to build new ones with the help of SCU Online and the six other graduate schools and college. In particular the graduate programs are under the Solutions for the Universal Good Priority. GOAL 3: Grow enrollment in, and expand the prominence of, our graduate and law programs, to strengthen our impact on Silicon Valley and beyond Initiatives include: Adapt existing, and develop new, graduate and law programs in response to changing needs of employers Bolster graduate and law student financial and other support, and increase completion rates and placements with the most desirable employers in the Silicon Valley and beyond

The #OxfordConversationist held a conference over 3 days in March hosted by the Indianapolis Zoo to discuss conservation and behaviour change. Liam Smith was one of the presenters focusing on the 'Stages of Behaviour Change Capacity'. The key capacities discussed during Liam's presentation where: --> Stop making behaviour change mistakes: Things that we know don't work, don't emphasis what you don't want, etc. --> Apply nudge approaches: There are generic behaviour change approaches that can be easily learnt and applied. --> Understand drivers and designing interventions: Choose a theory, diagnose drivers and barriers to behaviour change interventions and design interventions --> Bookend behavioural research: Explore to understand the problem on one end and then focus on the impact at the other end. --> Be part of a behavioural science research agenda: This is for organisations who are more advanced in their application of behavioural science. Liam also delved into new concepts like spillover and using behavioural science to drive systemic change. It’s great to be back at the People's History Museum in #Manchester for the Social Enterprise UK “Social Value Leaders’ Summit”. It’s over 10 years since I stood at the side of Peter Hansford CBE FREng who presided over the Northern launch of the Design Engineer Construct! Learning Programme. #DEC was created to support the development and indeed recruitment of young #digital talent whilst exceeding industry #socialvalue objectives. Over the years, so many children (yes, we start young) have come through the system - no skills gap! Just great outcomes. To kick start the day, Joanne Anderson welcomes Samantha Butler, Gayle Monk and Mark Simms to discuss ‘building policy that drives better outcomes for social value’. Mark’s insight on ‘truth and lies’, quality not quantity, and the focus of purpose, people and community “from the get-go” vs profit, coupled with Gayle’s suggestion that, “some of those people-centric KPIs need to look beyond the life of the contract” reminds me of the work we’re doing with the New Hospital Programme. We’re focusing on the social value of long term investment in knowledge and skills, of supporting teachers to deliver a joined-up, robust education that leads young people directly into an excellent career. It’s a refreshing approach, and I’m proud that Mott MacDonald, Sir Robert McAlpine and Ryder Architecture stepped up to deliver on #NHP’s collaborative approach to education in schools (Sir George Monoux College, Buxton School A Primary and Secondary Learning Community Leytonstone and East Leake Academy) despite the length of a contract. No “we’ll be off site in 18 months, so we can’t” here. We move into the next session chaired by Nancy Park with Claire Dove CBE DL, Katherine Fairclough and Jo Wilkes, and focus on ‘putting #leadership and #culture at the heart of Social Value’. It’s a great session - so much good can come out of client-led procurement to deliver a much-needed culture shift that focuses on purpose, people and community “from the get-go”.
