V.K.R.V. Rao, a distinguished Indian economist and institution builder, was deeply passionate about education and societal reform. Known for his significant contributions to the planning and development of the Indian economy, Rao's influence extended beyond the academic realm. One day, while reflecting on his life journey, Rao recalled a moment of profound realization, which he often referred to as his "punith" or turning point. As a young man, he was influenced by the plight of the underprivileged in his country. This observation sparked a deep desire within him to contribute meaningfully to India's growth and development. He understood that true progress required not only economic advancement but also an educated and empowered population. Driven by this conviction, Rao devoted his career to both economics and education. He was instrumental in founding several key institutions, including the Institute of Economic Growth in Delhi and the Delhi School of Economics. His vision and efforts laid the groundwork for future generations of scholars and policymakers in India. Rao's "punyathith" was not just a moment of personal awakening but a lifelong commitment to uplifting his nation. #VKRVRao #Economist #IndianEconomy #EducationReform #InstitutionBuilder #DelhiSchoolOfEconomics #EconomicDevelopment #IndianHistory #Inspiration #SocialReform #PublicPolicy #Visionary #Scholars #NationBuilding #IndianEducation

"I am what I am today because of education." An academic - economist first and then a politician, someone who had the instincts of a round-the-clock technocrat with less belligerent attitude of a pompous politician. Dr. Singh always had the knack for uplifting the lives of the downtrodden. From reading under a kerosene lamp, he had made his journey to some of the most prestigious universities of the world, all on his own academic merit. It was under his economic leadership as the country's finance minister that India opened up to the world for a better future. Having himself risen from his humble beginnings from Gah, a small village in present day Pakistan, to occupying the highest office in the Indian Democray, Dr. Singh was a classic example to understand the importance of education. His years as the Prime Minister were a testament to his untiring efforts for the marginalized communities and his commitment to strengthening democracy, in various legislations such as the RTI, MNREGA, Right to education to name a few. He did not believe in plaintalking, which was at once his weakness and strength rolled into one. He was man of few words but whatever he spoke, it always struck the right chord. A genial politician whose humility is a rare occurrence in mainstream political class. Today I write this missive as a homeage to a real hero, who has epitomized the idea of dreaming big and manifesting it to reality through the shear power of education, someone whom history would admire more and judge less. #india #drmanmohansingh #education #rip #linkedinforcreators #linkedin

Tribute to Dr. Manmohan Singh, Architect of Modern India As someone who has admired Dr. Manmohan Singh for his exceptional contributions to India’s economic growth, I often reflect on the lasting impact of his leadership. I still remember studying the economic reforms of 1991 during my 11th-grade Economics classes. The Liberalisation, Privatisation, and Globalisation (LPG) policies are some of the bold reforms that transformed India’s economy positioning India on the global map as an emerging economic powerhouse. For me, those lessons weren’t just a part of the curriculum; rather they shaped my understanding of economics. Dr. Singh’s leadership was characterized by thoughtfulness, humility, and focus on long-term growth — qualities that are often overshadowed in today’s fast-paced world but remain timeless and deeply influential. His legacy of courage in reforms are lessons that will continue to guide us for generations. As a former economics student, I am forever grateful for the insights his policies and leadership have provided, not just in theory, but in practice. Thank you, Dr. Manmohan Singh, for your extraordinary vision, and for forever changing the course of India's economic growth. #architectofmodernindia #economicreforms1991 #economicvisionary #indianeconomy #globalpowerhouse #inspiredbyeconomics

Today, we bid farewell to one of India’s greatest minds and a towering figure in its history – Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister and an extraordinary economist, who left us at the age of 92. As someone who has spent my life in the field of education, I cannot help but reflect on how Dr. Singh's life has been an education in itself. From walking miles to attend school in his small village in Punjab to earning his Doctorate from University of Oxford, his journey embodied the transformative power of education. He often said, "Education is the key to economic and social empowerment," and his life proved it. Dr. Singh was not just an economist or a politician. He was a teacher—literally and figuratively. He began his career as a professor, sharing his knowledge at Delhi School of Economics and later at the United Nations. Even when he stepped into the corridors of power, his policy decisions reflected the meticulous precision of a scholar and the empathy of a mentor. Who can forget the economic reforms of 1991? Under his leadership as Finance Minister, India broke free from the shackles of a near-bankrupt economy to emerge as a global force. He transformed a crisis into an opportunity—a lesson every student of life and economics must hold dear. As Prime Minister, his focus on initiatives like the Right to Education Act (RTE) and the National Rural Health Mission underscored his commitment to empowering India’s youth. His belief in inclusive education and opportunity resonates deeply with my own mission to shape the next generation of learners. To my students and peers: let’s honor his legacy by committing ourselves to education—not just as a tool for personal growth, but as a vehicle for national progress. Dr. Manmohan Singh’s life teaches us that with knowledge, humility, and service, we can leave the world better than we found it. His demise is not just a loss to the nation but a moment to reflect on the values he stood for. Rest in peace, Dr. Singh. The lessons you imparted will forever echo in the classrooms of history. #ManmohanSingh #EducationMatters #LegacyOfLeadership

A boy who wasn't allowed to sit with his classmates now sits in every seat of power. Recently, when the Karnataka Legislative Assembly placed Dr. Ambedkar's portraits on every desk, it reminded me of a story from his childhood. Over 100 years ago in Satara, a young Bhimrao Ambedkar sat on a gunny sack outside his classroom because he was an 'untouchable'. Every day after class, he had to carry that sack back home. The worst of it was when he felt thirsty in school. Like other students, Ambedkar wasn't allowed to touch the school tap or a vessel that contained it. He had to wait for the peon to pour it from a height. As a student, he received little help or attention from his teachers. In his autobiography "Waiting for Visa", he details these painful experiences. Yet, despite these injustices, Ambedkar didn’t break. He turned pain into purpose. He became one of the most educated minds of his time—a Ph.D. from Columbia University, a doctorate from the London School of Economics, and the principal architect of the Indian Constitution. He proved that brilliance knows no barriers. Today, his image graces every desk in the Vidhana Sabha—an enduring note of how far we've come. But let’s not forget how far we still have to go. Now, it’s up to us to build the India he dreamed of—an India where no child is denied dignity, opportunity, or their rightful place in society.

#2024BookRecommendation During my MSc. Exchange Program at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, I stumbled upon Ramachandra Guha's "India After Gandhi," and it completely enriched my perspective on India. This book is essential reading for anyone interested in the world's largest democracy. It explores the country's struggle to balance democratic ideals with real-world inequalities. Key themes include the resilience of democracy, the unity in diversity, and the ongoing evolution of India's political landscape. In the words of B.R. Ambedkar: "On the 26th of January 1950, we are going to enter into a life of contradictions. In politics we will have equality and in social and economic life we will have inequality... How long shall we continue to live this life of contradictions? How long shall we continue to deny equality in our social and economic life? If we continue to deny it for long, we will do so only by putting our political democracy in peril." #IndiaAfterGandhi isn’t just a history lesson; it’s essential for understanding the complexities of modern India and it is definitely very well composed, go check it out!
