V.K.R.V. Rao, a distinguished Indian economist and institution builder, was deeply passionate about education and societal reform. Known for his significant contributions to the planning and development of the Indian economy, Rao's influence extended beyond the academic realm. One day, while reflecting on his life journey, Rao recalled a moment of profound realization, which he often referred to as his "punith" or turning point. As a young man, he was influenced by the plight of the underprivileged in his country. This observation sparked a deep desire within him to contribute meaningfully to India's growth and development. He understood that true progress required not only economic advancement but also an educated and empowered population. Driven by this conviction, Rao devoted his career to both economics and education. He was instrumental in founding several key institutions, including the Institute of Economic Growth in Delhi and the Delhi School of Economics. His vision and efforts laid the groundwork for future generations of scholars and policymakers in India. Rao's "punyathith" was not just a moment of personal awakening but a lifelong commitment to uplifting his nation. #VKRVRao #Economist #IndianEconomy #EducationReform #InstitutionBuilder #DelhiSchoolOfEconomics #EconomicDevelopment #IndianHistory #Inspiration #SocialReform #PublicPolicy #Visionary #Scholars #NationBuilding #IndianEducation

"I am what I am today because of education." An academic - economist first and then a politician, someone who had the instincts of a round-the-clock technocrat with less belligerent attitude of a pompous politician. Dr. Singh always had the knack for uplifting the lives of the downtrodden. From reading under a kerosene lamp, he had made his journey to some of the most prestigious universities of the world, all on his own academic merit. It was under his economic leadership as the country's finance minister that India opened up to the world for a better future. Having himself risen from his humble beginnings from Gah, a small village in present day Pakistan, to occupying the highest office in the Indian Democray, Dr. Singh was a classic example to understand the importance of education. His years as the Prime Minister were a testament to his untiring efforts for the marginalized communities and his commitment to strengthening democracy, in various legislations such as the RTI, MNREGA, Right to education to name a few. He did not believe in plaintalking, which was at once his weakness and strength rolled into one. He was man of few words but whatever he spoke, it always struck the right chord. A genial politician whose humility is a rare occurrence in mainstream political class. Today I write this missive as a homeage to a real hero, who has epitomized the idea of dreaming big and manifesting it to reality through the shear power of education, someone whom history would admire more and judge less. #india #drmanmohansingh #education #rip #linkedinforcreators #linkedin

Reservation? One of the most controversial topics, right? In fact, because of this, students in Bangladesh overthrew their government. But in India, it holds a different position. The basic definition of reservation, according to me, is: "Reservation is not a policy for poverty upliftment; rather, it is a constitutional provision to ensure equal representation among all sections of society." For me, my thoughts on reservation have changed dramatically. Being a former science student, it hurts when your seat is lost due to just a couple of marks. And you arrive at the question: Why merit is not prioritised in India? I will start discussing these important social questions on LinkedIn (because it's a professional platform rather than a cringe one). Do share your opinions. Thank you!

Any system that studies science, social science, psychology, space science, arts and philosophy can only be a few centuries old. Even the oldest and most renowned Western universities are a few hundred years old and have historically been dependent on wealthy individuals and governments for their growth and advancement. In contrast, India’s Guru Parampara stands out. Knowledge in India has been preserved and passed down for thousands of years through Shruti texts and traditional education systems. This system is funded by the community and has been independent of kings, wealthy patrons or powerful authorities, ensuring its purity and integrity. If we truly want to save the world, we must adopt the #Sanatan system – a time-tested approach rooted in universal welfare. Institutions like Oxford, Columbia, MIT, the United Nations or even the World Economic Forum need to follow this ancient wisdom. This is not just a choice but a necessity. Ignoring Sanatani wisdom can lead humanity to destruction. It is a call to recognize the difference between systems that serve the few and those that work for the happiness and well-being of all.
