Shame to read that the world famous Edinburgh Festival fireworks are to end after 40 years. https://lnkd.in/eYkZBr-v. It's one of the few shows we never did and and we always looked on it with envious eyes. Now it's no more and, according to the organisers, the reason is a lack of a sponsor. Hmm. I wonder. Is big business being pressured into avoiding any association with fireworks for fear of upsetting the eco lobby? That's certainly the feeling I get when I see how few fireworks there will be to celebrate next week's Coronation. It will be the proverbial damp squib compared with previous royal celebrations, like the gold and platinum jubilees when every town and village celebrated with fireworks. Councils, who usually fund these events, take their lead from the top. When it was announced from Buckingham Palace that the Coronation celebrations at Windsor Castle would feature only drones and light shows you could almost hear an audible sigh of relief from cash-strapped town halls. At least we don't have to stump up for fireworks! Which is a shame really because at grass-roots level, fireworks still retain a huge level of popularity. We know this from the hundreds of inquiries we get each year. There's nothing like a fireworks display to fire up the feel-good factor. Sadly, Edinburgh, and the rest of the UK, is missing out on a piece of entertainment for which there is no substitute.

Are North Americans excited to get out and experience LIVE? 🧐 They sure are. In fact, there’s an >20% net increase in North Americans intention to attend live festival vs 2020. >80% of North Americans are planning to attend a LIVE Event within the next 12 months. Despite ongoing concerns about intimidating financial realities, consumers remain eager to participate in live events…take the sale of Taylor Swift tickets as an example! With many festivals and events still to come this year, such as Oktoberfest, Just For Laughs, Halloween, and Thanksgiving, it's reassuring to see that people are enthusiastic about engaging in these experiences. #liveevents #consumerinsights #acceleration

Founding Director of Night Time Economy Solutions Ltd and High Streets Task Force Expert at High Streets Task Force. Innovate UK Inclusive Innovation Award Winner
I had a really positive discussion with Peter Marks and Michael Kill on BBC Radio 4 The Bottom Line discussing the future of nightlife, it's not dying it's like a phoenix rising. If you are interested it's a 30-minute listen & you can find it here And although nightclubs are dying off as the needs of young people change the future of nightlife itself, is not dying & people will always want places to dance, & enjoy music, arts, culture & food over shared experiences. It's like a phoenix rising. These areas of growth need to be protected, nurtured & nourished to enable them to flourish. So what are the hot new trends in nightlife? 1. Experiential activities: this is taking part in activities you can immerse & lose yourself in, & just for that moment forget the world exists beyond the joy! Think hedonism in things such as immersive theatre & dining, in the last few weeks, for example, I've experienced a painting in the dark night, a secret dining club experience where you go to a secret location to eat not knowing what the menu is or anyone else there, spaces such as Wake the Tiger in Bristol & a couple of weeks ago I went to a twilight spa experience. 2. Small low-risk DIY-type festivals: Some of the Big festivals are struggling to financially make it, but small intimate festivals around a shared love of music, arts, culture & food running for 1 to 2 days are in & selling out fast. People like the sense of intimacy & exclusivity. 3. Underground & pop-up events that are unique & maybe only run a few times before switching things up in meanwhile or unusual spaces. People want interesting things to talk about and are still willing to spend money on something great, average is out unless it's a quick and easy eat but even then people are choosing local and familiar like a local space they regularly go to think home from home, with familiar consistency and regular welcome. 4. Instagrammable & bespoke moments think street art, cool-looking food consumed on the street, in parks, on shared tables & unique lighting experiences such as light nights, & trails that encourage people to wander through & explore a city finding new spaces on route. 5. Kink, Fetish & Spirituality spaces where people can explore their specific sexual kinks & fetishes or views on spirituality with other like-minded people. Think ice baths, ceremonies, yoga & intimate life sharing. 6. Emerging world food by independent providers. If you're interested it's a 30-minute listen here https://lnkd.in/dxMzSfK9

Summer time is in full swing which means we are all enjoying lots of activities - concerts, festivals, and other large gatherings. These events are fun, but it’s always important to have an emergency plan in place. For example, check for emergency exits, determine a meeting spot and decide on a main point of contact to call in case of emergency. Since a deadly nightclub fire in Rhode Island in 2003, the NFPA has enacted new code provisions for fire sprinklers and crowd management in nightclub-type venues. In the 70s, 80s, and 90s, Door Supervisors were essential to maintaining order and security in public venues. They were respected and appreciated for their vital role in ensuring the safety of patrons and the smooth running of establishments such as nightclubs, bars, and concerts. However, in 2000-2024 the perception of Door Supervisors has changed and has been lost. As we move forward, it's important to recognise the value of Door Supervisors as a necessary part of the nightlife scene. Their presence instills a sense of security and allows people to freely enjoy their social experiences. We must respect their contribution in upholding order and ensuring the overall well-being of everyone present. How can we work towards restoring the public's trust and appreciation for Door Supervisors?
