South Carolina played a crucial role in the American Revolutionary War, both strategically and in terms of battles fought on its soil 🇺🇸 The Battle of Sullivan's Island (1776) was an early victory for American forces where they successfully defended Fort Moultrie against a British naval assault. South Carolina's resistance and resilience were significant in the overall Southern strategy that eventually led to British General Cornwallis's surrender at Yorktown in 1781. The state's involvement exemplifies the diverse and widespread nature of the Revolutionary War. 📸: @amyquinnhill . . . #coldwellbanker #coldwellbankerrealty #charlestonrealestate #charlestonhomes #charlestonsc #charleston #homeowner #homesweethome #realestateexpert #buying #selling #danielisland #iop #isleofpalms #sullivansisland #mtpleasant #explorecharleston #realtor #luxuryhomes #househunting #realestatelife #dreamhome #home #chsrealtor #luxuryrealestate #lowcountryliving #hipandhistoric #michellesellschs

The demand for Oak has been around for thousands of years, particularly popular amongst hard woods for its exceptional durability and elegant look. Demand was particularly prevalent during the 1700's that saw the rapid expansion of the Royal Navy which around its peak amassed some 300 ships, the most famous HMS Victory which can be seen today at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is estimated to have used some 6,000 tree's in its construction (90% being Oak). During the race to dominate the Oceans of the world the Royal Navy sought control of new Oak territories as demand sky rocketed, leading conquests in Scandinavia, the Baltics, Germany, Russia and even New England what are now Maritime provinces. Present day the worlds Oak is sustainable however this wasn't as much of a factor in history, many wars were Faught over control of this special tree. (Vice-Admiral Lord Nelson's Flag Ship HMS Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar Oct. 21st, 1805) The worlds oldest Naval vessel still in commission.

💐 Building a Legacy starts with an idea - an idea that considers the possible and then reaches for the impossible. It is not limited by the status quo, it is not constrained by the conventional. It looks passed what is and imagines what could be. It taps into a not so common theme that inspires others to build upon the idea, that together, we can make a difference for generations to come. It looks forward to the day that my children and the children of San Antonio will be able to sit in the shade of a tree that someone planted long ago... Happy Mother’s Day - May we continue Building Futures 💐 Port San Antonio, Kelly Heritage Foundation, Boeing Center at Tech Port, Centurion Military Alliance (CMA), Airman Heritage Group, Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Texas, Our Community Salutes San Antonio (OCS SA)

#OnThisDay - 7 May 1765 When HMS Victory was launched on 7 May 1765, from Chatham Dockyard, it marked a significant moment in British naval history. Commissioned during a period of intense maritime rivalry, Victory stood as a testament to Britain's naval prowess and technological innovation. Crafted under the watchful eye of naval architect Sir Thomas Slade, Victory was a formidable first-rate ship of the line, constructed from sturdy oak timbers and boasting three imposing gun decks capable of accommodating over 100 guns. Her launch represented the culmination of years of design and craftsmanship. Throughout her illustrious career, Victory became synonymous with some of the most iconic moments in British naval history. Serving as the flagship for esteemed commanders, including Admiral Horatio Nelson, she played a pivotal role in shaping the course of naval warfare. Perhaps Victory's most renowned moment came during the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, where she formed the centrepiece of Nelson's fleet. Commanding from her decks, Nelson led the British Royal Navy to a decisive victory over the combined forces of France and Spain, securing Britain's dominance of the seas for generations to come. Tragically, it was also on these very decks that Nelson met his end, immortalizing Victory as a symbol of both triumph and sacrifice. Today, Victory stands as a living testament to Britain's maritime heritage and prowess during the Age of Sail. Currently undergoing one of the biggest conservation projects the National Museum of the Royal Navy has ever undertaken, we are embarking on an once-in-a-lifetime project to preserve HMS Victory for future generations. You know exactly why this is the way it is. It’s no secret! A dollar earned means way more than a dollar given. Same with education: make it cost you something. Earn it and it will mean more and you will find yourself making excuses to use what you’ve just learned! Application: no dessert before you’ve finished your meal. Make it a hurdle to move forward before you’ve learned something. No phone before you’ve read a chapter. Watch that Ted Talk before you go out for the night. Let’s see what you come up with!
Building a one-person business I love. Left 9-5 in 2021. Sharing practical art, behind-the-scenes, and lessons I’ve learned.

The US Naval Academy’s epic #McMullen23 Naval History event concluded and two questions remain: What impact - if any - does history have on naval policy today? Is it possible to operationalize historical knowledge to solve the problems of today? Here are my thoughts:
