Someone asked me recently why I left workforce development. My response was that I didn't, I just went to the front of it. Check out this recent Forbes article highlighting our CEO Michael Hansen as he shares how higher education has to align with technology to meet employability gaps and Cengage is right in the middle of helping to research and develop globally how prepared that talent is once it leaves the classroom and goes to work in your neighborhood. https://lnkd.in/e5j4PDCq

It was once the “golden ticket” to the American dream. But the value of a college education, specifically a 4-year degree, is no longer what it was. Companies are dropping degree requirements. And replacing them with in-house training programs. Higher ed still has a place in learning and workforce readiness. But the future won’t look like the past. I wrote about the need to align higher ed missions and corporate interests for Chief Learning Officer: https://lnkd.in/e8iU9Gcz Is your institution partnering with any business interests to develop programming? #highereducation #highereducationleadership #innovation

Friends in our Coffee Community, you are invited to a Listening Session on the Coffee Campus next Tuesday, January 21. You can attend either the 9:00 a.m. session or the 5:00 p.m. session in the Planning Room. The purpose of the listening sessions is to receive feedback and input from the communities the college serves. This is part of the strategic planning process and aims to engage local stakeholders, businesses, and community members in shaping the future of the college and its role in the community. The college is looking for feedback on programs offered and ensuring the skills and qualifications meet the needs of the business. The sessions will cover various topics to enhance partnerships, workforce development, and community engagement. Are there any specific skills or training you feel is lacking in the local workforce that you feel the college could address? These questions and more will allow the college to gain valuable feedback as we set the college’s priorities for the next several years. If you can attend either one of the sessions RSVP by using this link address. https://lnkd.in/epN75eub #StrategicPlanning #WiregrassCommunities #CoffeeCampus

We have a lot of work to do as a sector AND I am optimistic when I see the work that key leaders across the higher education ecosystem are doing to be engines activating human capital, connecting individuals to opportunity, and businesses to talent. When higher education and business co-create, learners and earners are empowered with the technical and durable skills for success in a changing workplace and society and for their own long-term wealth generation. How can we ensure that we more rapidly advance the sector based on the lessons learned and the successes of exemplar business and higher education partnership models that we are seeing across the country? Dr. Angela Coleman, Dr. Julie Estis and Dr. Carol Sawyer represented the University of South Alabama at the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) annual meeting. Their presentation, "Enhance Workforce Development and Career Readiness by Leveraging Ongoing Assessment and the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP),” explored how to leverage the QEP and ongoing assessment practices to further the conversation on this topic and move programs from conversation to action. They discussed key questions shaping the future of #higherEd, like: How can #liberalarts and #STEM programs align with workforce development goals? What do career-readiness learning outcomes look like in diverse academic disciplines? How can ongoing assessment practices support these efforts? #ReadySouthGo #qualityenhancementprogram
