All the calculations in the LCA model have undergone independent review by the IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute to ensure data accuracy. Science Based Targets initiative recommends Beyond Value Chain Mitigation SBTi has issued two reports in February 2024: -      Above and Beyond: an SBTi report on the design and implementation of Beyond Value Chain Mitigation (BVCM), and -      Raising the bar: an SBTi report on accelerating corporate adoption of Beyond Value Chain Mitigation (BVCM) BVCM is defined as: mitigation actions or investments that fall outside a company’s value chain, including activities that avoid or reduce GHG emissions, or remove and store GHGs from the atmosphere. Companies should take action, or make investments outside their own value chains to mitigate GHG emissions in addition to their near-term and long-term science-based targets. SBTi recommends that companies use BVCM measures to accelerate progress towards net-zero. It is one of the four key components of SBTi’s Corporate Net-Zero Standard. SBTi also want companies to report annually on their BVCM measures, which should be >50% of their remaining scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. The BVCM claims must be verified by independent 3rd parties. I am very pleased with this recommendation by SBTi, as it will act as a push to accelerate towards a Net Zero future. Surely, we will see more companies joining CarbonLeap’s enthusiastic group of pioneering customers, willing to go above and beyond the mandatory reductions required by law and regulations. #climateaction #scope3 #pioneers #supplychains

The Taskforce on Nature-Related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) new guidance highlights the importance of sustainable practices in the chemical sector, including investments in bio-based feedstocks, carbon capture and utilization, and waste processing and recycling. https://bit.ly/3xoaJxG Günes Ergun outlines how chemical companies can contribute to the global goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and ensure the long-term viability of the industry by adopting these measures. #sustainability #netzero

Great article about the challenges and trade-offs of the growing circular economy. #basf is building an entire circular value chain for battery cathode materials from Finland to Germany to support the growing demand. Finland is understandably concerned about the waste from the new plant. This is nothing new for #basf who have dealt with the Verbund topic in Ludwigshafen for over a century, but it is a key cost driver if they have to invest in another step in the value chain. We will see these types of discussions and trade-offs manyfold over the next decades, as we reinvent the circular Verbund across Europe. https://lnkd.in/e8pecSUT
