MassChallenge Switzerland Announces Its 2024 Early-Stage Accelerator Cohort 🌍🚀 MassChallenge Switzerland has unveiled its 2024 cohort, including Kenya's Organic Fields among the 103 early-stage startups selected from 37 countries. This elite group represents the top 8% of global applications, chosen by over 300 independent experts for their innovative and sustainable solutions. Organic Fields, a social-environmental enterprise, tackles food waste by converting it into organic fertilizer, aligning perfectly with MassChallenge's sustainability goals. This 4-month program will provide these startups with world-class mentoring, corporate partnerships, and invaluable networking opportunities. Matthew Lashmar, Managing Director of MassChallenge Switzerland, expressed his enthusiasm: “Now the fun starts, and we can’t wait to help these startups connect with our partners and mentors. We aim to support their growth and add value to our community and society." 💡 Start-ups and entrepreneurial ecosystems in the circular economy: A multi-level approach for safe and just planetary boundaries 📝 This study investigates the role of start-ups and entrepreneurial ecosystems in advancing sustainable development through a multi-level framework, integrating macro (policies), meso (ecosystems), and micro (business models) levels. 🌱 This systematic review, published in the International Small Business Journal and written by João Ferreira, Ana Joana Candeias Fernandes, and Marcela Ramírez Pasillas, analyzes 90 articles, highlighting the importance of collaboration across supply chains and the innovative potential of start-ups to address environmental and social challenges. This month, I was thrilled to dive into the vibrant startup ecosystem of Western Australia at ALCHEMY: A Night of Innovation. Hosted at the WA Museum Boola Bardip and in collaboration with Modern People, StartupWA, So Perth, and StartupNews, the event showcased groundbreaking ideas and visionary entrepreneurs. Ten dynamic startups each delivered a compelling 4-minute pitch, unveiling their innovative solutions. The evening also featured Startup Alley, where guests could interact with the entrepreneurs and learn more about their projects. Attendees included entrepreneurs, investors, business leaders, tech enthusiasts, and innovation enthusiasts all passionate about the future of our planet. Highlights included innovative ideas for smarter control of parks, gardens, public open spaces, floodlights, toilets, irrigation, and EV chargers. Additionally, health and nutrition were in the spotlight with tiger nut milk—a nut-free, allergen-free, plant-based milk alternative and edible cutlery. A standout moment was the keynote by Jan Haak, who introduced the world's first zero-emissions truck, promising a significant reduction in the mining industry's environmental footprint.
