Discussing the interconnection queues for clean energy generation, as well as the need for permitting reform, George drew insights from Lazard’s 2024 Levelized Cost of Energy+ Report. He emphasized the urgent need for queue and permitting reform to address the growing backlog of clean energy and natural gas projects, creating challenges for EPCs, developers, equipment suppliers, and end users. As renewable energy project developers in the aughts my colleagues and I saw the challenges of project interconnection building to become a primary bottleneck in the energy transition across many jurisdictions. This important action by FERC is the first of several steps necessary to ensure the reliable, affordable, and clean grid that we depend on to support our economy and well being.
