“The delay in projects because of the queue…has caused some projects to be turned upside down,” said George Bilicic, Head of Lazard’s Power, Energy & Infrastructure effort, during his appearance on Veriten’s C.O.B. Tuesday podcast. Discussing the interconnection queues for clean energy generation, as well as the need for permitting reform, George drew insights from Lazard’s 2024 Levelized Cost of Energy+ Report. He emphasized the urgent need for queue and permitting reform to address the growing backlog of clean energy and natural gas projects, creating challenges for EPCs, developers, equipment suppliers, and end users. As renewable energy project developers in the aughts my colleagues and I saw the challenges of project interconnection building to become a primary bottleneck in the energy transition across many jurisdictions. This important action by FERC is the first of several steps necessary to ensure the reliable, affordable, and clean grid that we depend on to support our economy and well being. Excited not only by this action but also by Chair Phillips commitment that this is the first of more action to streamline grid build out. #deploydeploydeploy
I stopped by Bloomberg TV to discuss FERC’s unanimous and bipartisan new rule that will help unlock America’s energy future by speeding up the interconnection process for new energy projects waiting to connect to the electric grid. Bloomberg News https://lnkd.in/esUNCq66
