The 10th goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals is Reduced Inequalities. This is one of the crucial topics which YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa tackled with the members of the 58th cohort under the theme “Diversity and Inclusion” This theme when expounded on further, means being more equitable and inclusive when forming our teams as well as working with our teams. The facilitators Madam Lucy Muchiri and Mr. Joel Asiago emphasized that as leaders, we must be intentional about learning to work with people of different races, religions, social status, political opinion to mention but a few. We also delved into the various types of marginalization and learnt how to address our unconscious biases in order to drive our teams to effectively working together to complete tasks and ensure productivity. My take-home was that building more inclusive societies, leaders are able to promote creativity, create harmony in their teams, and facilitate engagement and trust which ultimately improves the work performance of the various teams. I appreciate the efforts of YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa which takes action to connect young leaders from several African countries including Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Eritrea, South Sudan, DRC and Uganda. It’s so exciting to have some of them as my class mates in the 58th cohort! It makes no difference if you’re a lion or a gazelle! Reflecting on the timeless story HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum shares in his book My Vision, the lion and the gazelle—reminds us of a powerful truth in leadership and life. Each morning, a lion knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle, or it will go hungry. And each morning, a gazelle wakes knowing it must outrun the fastest lion, or it won’t survive. The lesson? No matter who you are or where you stand, progress and survival demand relentless #movement, #innovation and #adaptability. I had the honor of sharing the stage with two remarkable individuals who live by this ethos: H.E LAILA EL ATFANI and Maher Al Kaabi embodying resilience and innovation and we agreed that whether we lead like the lion, or the gazelle, the only way to stay relevant is by evolving and embracing fresh ideas with a glorious growth mindset! 🔳WE MUST CHANGE THE NARRATIVE. #leadership #Africa #people #panacea Africa has suffered from a parade of decorated twisted mindsets mislabeled as leadership. The word "wick" and "twist" are synonyms. Simply put, a TWIST-ed mind is a WICK-ed mind. Not surprising, many African🌍 nations are still searching for leadership that is genuinely a panacea for the pains of the people. Rather than be a panacea, they are the pains. Kudos to those nations that are changing the narrative.👏👏 Until there is a change in the mindsets, the definition of leadership remains the definition of selfishness. ~--~ Olufemi Adebayo Thank you Fabrice Rulinda for sharing your thoughts and insight. "Embracing Change and New Leadership" Botswana has just witnessed a historic and peaceful transition of power. This peaceful shift in leadership offers valuable lessons for both life and business. 1. Embrace change with optimism Just like a new government can bring fresh perspectives, organizations should welcome change as an opportunity for growth and innovation. 2. Stay positive during transitions Effective change may be challenging but maintaining a positive outlook can drive resilience and motivation. 3. Adapt and thrive Flexibility is key, organizations that are agile can better navigate shifts in leadership, market trends and global dynamics. 4. Strengthen collaboration Unity and open communication are the foundations of success. 5. Focus on a shared vision Aligning everyone to a common goal can lead to sustainable progress and long-term success. I am inspired by Botswana’s peaceful transition and the lessons it offers for embracing change in our personal and professional lives. 💙 #PeacefulTransition #EmbracingChange #LeadershipLessons #UnityInDiversity #StayPositive #Pula

MAKING OUR OWN SIDE GREENER; THE LEADERSHIP WE NEED We often fall prey to the illusion that Africa is poor, the continent is forever broken beyond repairs and that happiness and fulfillment exist just beyond our reach. But what if, instead of constantly searching for greener pastures elsewhere, risking even our very own lives to the point of death, what if we channeled that energy into cultivating a more fertile and flourishing environment right here in Africa? By focusing on improvements and positive changes within our own situation in our leadership culture and styles, we might be surprised by the abundant potential that blossoms right before our eyes. The saying goes that "the grass is always greener on the other side." However, this perspective often overlooks the power we hold to transform our current reality into our desired reality. Instead of yearning for an idealized version of life that may or may not exist elsewhere, we we as can people must choose a more proactive approach. By actively nurturing and cultivating leaders and potentials of our populace, cultivate and nurture the positive aspects of our present circumstances, with this we can create a thriving and fulfilling space for ourselves, right here - the motherland. #theleadersdiary #endlessleadership #leadership #kingdomleadershipnetwork #OneAfrica #anewafrica #CreatingYourOwnGreenerPastures
