Someone asked me last week "𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘰" and I said "𝘐'𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰-𝘧𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 Amazing If, 𝘢 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘰𝘯 𝘢 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘴𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘨𝘨𝘭𝘺 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦". There was a pause before they replied with... "𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙙𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝘿𝙊?" Fair question, so I thought I'd use the last 24 hours to track a 'day in the life' and perhaps find a better way to articulate the reality of my role (thanks to The Marketing Society, Medtronic, Google and Kennedys for featuring in my day!) I've shared it below in case you're curious, but I think the bigger insight is that 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲. Clarity helps people spot what they might like to do more of and can inform their career conversations. And when teams with diverse roles talk about this together, greater understanding increases empathy ("𝘐 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘯'𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵") and efficiency ("𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘐 𝘴𝘦𝘦, 𝘐 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘪𝘵 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘧 𝘸𝘦..."). It's a work win-win. Perhaps 'day in my work life' is an activity to try out in your team....

Freelance Marketing Assistant | MSc Marketing Student | Expert in Marketing & Digital Strategy & Social Media Growth | Disability Power 100 Influencer | Helping Brands Amplify Their Impact | Para Athletics Athlete
Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending Bright Network Breaking Barriers event 2024! 🎉 The event offered a fantastic opportunity to engage with like-minded students and professionals through insightful discussions with a diverse range of employers. Key takeaways Sheetal Sanghvi journey at RSM. Her passion for sports and the way she translated teamwork and leadership into her career path. It was so insightful to hear about her resilience in balancing personal challenges with career progression, which closely aligns with my own focus on transferable skills, especially from my background in marketing and athletics. Claire Freeman at Clifford Chance, particularly on embracing diversity through intersectionality and identity. She shared how building a diverse network is crucial in creating inclusive work environments, a concept I’m eager to apply as I advance in marketing and continue to foster inclusive team dynamics in my own career. Ellen Kerslake ‘s case demonstrated how empathy and meaningful work can define a fulfilling career. This has reinforced my belief that marketing, when done authentically, can also create a positive impact and influence. Louise Tweedie thoughts on neurodiversity emphasized the need for both employers and employees to make an effort in creating supportive environments. This “two-way street” mentality is a great reminder of the collaboration needed in any team—something I strive to nurture in marketing projects to drive both individual and team success. This event truly reignited my passion for learning and growth. I’m excited to apply these takeaways to my career in marketing, and I’d like to thank Bright Network and all the employers who contributed to this opportunity. bp CGI #Marketing #DigitalMarketing #BusinessDevelopment #Opportunities #Career #Growth #OpenToWork #London

Career Development Leader | TEDx Speaker | Career Maximizer | Program & People Manager | Certified Career Coach
Wow! It's the 5 year anniversary of one of my favorite moments in my career: my TED Talk. When I gave this talk in 2019 we were living in a different world. Even with the ways we've seen the job market shift, and the revolutionizing roll in of remote work, there are some things that I can say still ring true in the advice I gave 5 years ago. Self-Advocacy. You always have the right to ask for what you want in a negotiation. Once the offer is made, it's your chance to really make this as long-lasting and beneficial as you can. Knowing your Values. It's worth centering your values when you share your stories and your brand. What motivates you is uniquely yours, and sharing those tennants are a way to get others to understand you and connect to you! Reframing "Never Settle" In this job market, this job might not be the dream job, but what can it do for you to get you there on your next step? Even when compromising some elements of the role, look to see what resources, training, and opportunities are there for you to challenge yourself. This can be the leverage that catapults you forward. 5 years ago I spoke about landing a dream job where I felt embraced for my creativity and search for community. Today, I live a bigger dream working as a Senior Job Success Specialist at Merit America. I started as a coach and now guide a talented team of coaches in empowering folks stuck in low-wage jobs pave their way into well-paying careers across IT, UX, Data Analytics, and more. I am inspired daily by the way we help break down economic barriers and work towards changing the state of accessible education to make it possible for our learners and alumni to pivot towards higher salaries and better balance in their lives. Imagine if life was full of possibilities. If your starting position didn't determine your end position. Unfortunately, the statistics tell a very different story. Young people with working-class parents are three times more likely to end up in working-class jobs themselves. It's time to break this cycle. And this is where we come in. We're not just about aspiring; we're about doing. And what we're doing this month is connecting our amazing young people to the professionals they aspire to be like. Because the reality is that they do not usually have this access, which seriously limits life chances. So why is this so important? Imagine meeting someone who's been in your shoes, but has made it to places you dare not dream of. It shows you what's possible. Even for you. Our career events show young people that their world can be wider than they have been led to believe. And we do this by introducing them to some amazing role models. Thank you Nassar Hussain (Brookland ), Dennis Ougrin (Queen Mary University of London), Pye Nyunt (Impera Analytics), Sonali Kinra (NHS) and a special shoutout to our very own Future Leaders UK alumnus, Eesa Ahmed (Salesforce) for helping us inspire the next generation of leaders! #EducateEngageEmpower #FutureLeaders #AccessForAll
