Delighted to see Time Out London name not one, but TWO of our lovely markets — Columbia Road and Brick Lane — in this guide to the best London markets for shopping and browsing. We couldn’t agree more!

Two reminders: 1. shopping locally is not something you should only do one day a year; thriving small businesses sustain the health of small- and mid-size commercial districts and the attendant residential real estate values surrounding. They contribute to safety and security in communities, draw healthy transience, spark investment, and alleviate burdens on the environment that are affecting every level of society. 2. most real estate professionals you know, including me, are operating a small business. To paraphrase my grandmother, the oceans are held back not by one, but by each grain of sand doing its part.

What We Could and Should Do with One Port Street...? Watch my short video here: https://lnkd.in/dgGGD_8N. One Port Street has the potential to become a spectacular waterfront retail and entertainment facility. Owned by Canada Lands, a federal government entity, this property could be transformed into Mississauga's number one attraction, drawing inspiration from successful developments like Granville Island in Vancouver or South Street Seaport in New York City. Imagine One Port Street as a bustling hub of activity, featuring a vibrant mix of shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues. It could host an event space for concerts, festivals, and community gatherings, along with a year-round farmers market showcasing local produce and artisanal goods. The waterfront location offers the perfect backdrop for outdoor dining, recreational activities, and scenic walking paths. So, what's holding us back? Why aren't we embracing big ideas for Mississauga's future? We need to challenge the status quo and prioritize ambitious, forward-thinking projects that reflect our city's potential. Let's adopt a bold vision for One Port Street and turn it into a landmark destination that everyone can enjoy and be proud of. It's time for Mississauga to dream big and deliver on those dreams. Vote for a BETTER Mississauga that thrives with creativity and innovation. Vote for a future where One Port Street becomes a symbol of our city's commitment to excellence and community spirit.

This is a personal post. I have never hidden my pride at being from officially 7th Greatest City in the World (Time Out - https://lnkd.in/evSmrM3X -) Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and Liverpool City Council should be rightly proud. Growing up in 1970's & 80's Liverpool, it wasn't easy. We didn't do ourselves any favours (sometimes we still don't) and there was a clear dislike of the City's militancy. That wasn't without foundation but, thankfully, in 1984, Lord Heseltine spotted the potential and reminded us all of the opportunity that existed. Although it's not been a straight line, the result today is we are 7th!! Some turnaround in 40 years. I'm also proud to be from #GreatBritain and to live in the #UK However, it makes me smile (with irony), when we see what is coming out of our Nations capital (home to the Mayor of London). Mr Khan may have won a 3rd term, but all is not well down South. The good news is that #London remains the 4th best City in the World in the same survey. But there are issues. Being in #financialservices, the effect of what is happening in the City of London Corporation area has an affect on my day to day #life and, precisely because "#money makes the #world go round" it is important that we have a strong and vibrant "City". Being a visitor for non-commercial reasons to London, it is also important that London's #nightime economy regains its mojo. As has been pointed out by Martin Murray, "I remember a time when Liverpool would have probably been in the bottom 7, and this turn in fortune is, in no short part, because of its great #cultural #nightlife, which is now a £5BILLION -a-year visitor #economy, employing around 51,000 people. Another great benefit to the North West is that great working partnership #Liverpool has with #Manchester. Imagine that, authorities working together for the greater good. If only other areas would follow the lead". What Are the Biggest Business Industries in Liverpool - Tourism & Hospitality industries play a pivotal role, capitalising on the city's cultural #heritage and #entertainment options." The latest initiative coming out of Liverpool https://lnkd.in/e564vxGW ...sees experts from #sport, #film, #music, #hospitality and #leisure ..with a 5 yr plan. I am pleased to be a member of The Sporting Club, thanks to Ian Stafford, supported by Paul Cheetham-Karcz and Sedulo, who host their unique brand of #Business #Networking with Sport in Liverpool (and other cities, inc. London). Away supporters at Liverpool Football Club or Everton Football Club chant "you ain't got no history": Actually we have and in the commercial world think Rathbones Group Plc Evelyn Partners BNY Mellon | Pershing Brabners Hill Dickinson LLP Boodles Bibby Line Group Home Bargains. All that and our Universities, Museuems, Parks & Gardens. Blueprint? Just saying.... 👍✌️✊🕊️ #socialmedia

Visiting various towns and cities around the UK there is a stark contrast between those who are embracing independent stores and businesses and those that are still clinging on to the high street chain model of the past. Personally I love to visit towns where the smaller chain stores sit side by side with independent businesses whether that’s small boutiques, coffee shops or stores that are great at delivering quality products alongside a great customer experience. The towns and cities that are less fun to visit are those that still have the empty units from our pre-pandemic world. Especially if they are facing the double whammy of expensive car parking costs and poor public transport infrastructure. In the North East where I live there is a huge variety of interesting towns and cities to visit. From the bustling, exciting city centre of Newcastle to the small boutiques and great customer service that a town like Morpeth or Hexham offers, to the biggest shopping centre in Europe, the Metrocentre. We really are spoilt for choice in the breadth of experience that our local towns can offer. I love shopping online but I don’t think I’ll ever give up on our UK high street. Who knows where it will evolve to next but I’m hopeful that it’ll deliver a great experience of shopping, hospitality and community. #UKHighStreet #SupportLocal #ShoppingExperience

What the f*ck happened to the UK high street? At some point in the last 20 years the high streets in our UK towns died a death. And I’ve been saying - it's the new digital world we live in, it’s like this everywhere. Except this summer I discovered it's really not…… I’ve been extremely fortunate to visit several towns and cities in over 10 European countries this summer and I realised it’s not like this everywhere so what exactly happened to our beloved British high streets? Somewhere along the line we stopped shopping for things we needed and started shopping as a hobby. And the things we need we purchase conveniently, from a supermarket on the way home from work. I believe this has altered the fabric of our society. Over the summer I’ve seen shops selling spices, shops dedicated solely to the sale of cast iron pans, an actual haberdashery and a bar in Naples that only had 4 seats and that’s just not something I’m used to seeing in the UK. We seem to exhaust ourselves at work and then we satiate ourselves by buying cheap generic junk online for a quick dopamine hit. These small businesses were not just the economic lifeblood of our local economies they were the glue for our local communities. I don't think we'll get them back now. What do you think? #shoplocal #economics #business #urbanplanning
