✒ I love this kind of public involvement in heritage and have even sent off an email myself to Hampshire Museums to get a page to decipher! 🤞 📑 Transcription is a tricky thing, I've had some experience with it during my career, and trying to read handwriting is both fun and challenging! ❗ The top tips to remember are: ✍ Write exactly what you see - mistakes, weird spellings, abbreviations and all. ✍ Don't be tempted to guess a word if you're not sure. Make a note so someone else can check it later. ✍ Document catalogues are now designed to be accessed online. So, add as many comments, notes, and spelling updates as possible in the correct fields. This will help the document to be more searchable by researchers. 👋 Need help with writing or reading documents in English? Let’s connect! 🏛 I help arts and heritage students and professionals improve their communication skills and confidence 👩🏫 Don’t forget to follow me and ring the bell 🔔 on the profile to catch all my posts #archives #janeausten #heapoffacts #transcription #history #englishwriting

The Spring 2024 issue of Exhibition journal is now out. “Alternative Realities” surveys many ways exhibitions can question existing systems and open pathways to new and more equitable futures. At a time when what divides us can feel almost insurmountable, authors share how they are harnessing hope, challenging prevailing narratives, and upending established museum practices as they seek to reshape our vision of what is possible—within and beyond the museum. Exhibition is a journal of exhibition theory and practice for museum professionals published by the American Alliance of Museums. Appraisers often rely on private sales data from dealers, highlighting the crucial role art dealers play in the art market. 🎨🌍 Dive into the pivotal role of art dealers in shaping the transatlantic art market from the late 19th to early 20th centuries! In an often overlooked perspective of the art market's history this new publication, "Money in the Air: Art Dealers and the Making of a Transatlantic Market, 1880–1930," shows how these figures not only influenced art collections but also significantly impacted the foundations of major American art museums. #ArtHistory #ArtMarket #ArtDealers
Congrats to editors Gail Feigenbaum, Sandra van Ginhoven, and Edward Sterrett, on the publication of “Money in the Air: Art Dealers and the Making of a Transatlantic Market, 1880–1930”. This volume explores the often-overlooked role of art dealers in creating a transatlantic art market in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It offers new perspectives on the development of art collections that formed the core of American art museums, such as the National Gallery of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Frick Collection. #ArtHistory #Scholarship #Collecting

And we've come to the end of Location and movement control! This is the 13th and final question you need to consider when forming a policy on moving objects within your museum and on recording the location of objects, whether in the museum or elsewhere. This could either be a standalone document or part of a wider collections management policy. 🔗 https://buff.ly/45DS6kS #PrimaryProcedures #MuseumDocumentation
