I recently attended the #workshop "Sustainable Future: Disruptive Technologies Applied to the Aerospace Industry", presented by Airbus, at the ACM-W Europe womENcourage 2024 event. It was an amazing experience, and I was thrilled to be able to contribute actively. In the photo, you can see me presenting one of the solutions I proposed during the workshop. My group was presented with the challenge of optimizing the wings of an airplane, and I suggested a biomimetic approach. #Biomimicry is the science of applying nature-inspired designs in human engineering and invention to solve human problems. Specifically, I proposed replicating the serrated shape of humpback whale fins, known for their excellent hydrodynamics. This design has been tested on a wind turbine blade demonstrator, showing significant efficiency improvements. However, it's important to note that this solution also presents manufacturing challenges due to its shape complexity. Overall, the workshop was a fantastic opportunity to explore innovative solutions and engage with industry experts.
