The need for food relief escalates during Winter months, as vulnerable people across Australia must choose between heating and food bills - particularly as the price of fresh produce continue to soar. On behalf of our amazing clients, PonyUp for Good has turned their decommissioned tech into another 55,000 fresh meal donations, via the dedicated work of SecondBite, Australia’s largest fresh food rescue charity, feeding over 150,000 people for free, every day of the year. As a Social Enterprise, PonyUp donates 50% of profits to SecondBite, by leveraging the residual value of your end of life technology. 💙 Thanks to everyone that visited our Community Fridge this week. 💙 Your visits make a real difference in our mission to reduce food waste and strengthen community bonds. 🍏 Purpose of the Community Fridge: The core purpose of our Community Fridge is to rescue fresh food from going to waste and bring our community together. 🛒 How It Works: To keep our Fridge running, we rely on your generous donations. This includes surplus from supermarkets, local food businesses, producers, households, and gardens. Your contributions fuel the spirit of sharing and mutual support that defines our community. 🌐 The Community Fridge Network: We're proud to be part of the Community Fridge Network with Hubbub, joining over 300 fridges across the UK in the fight against food waste. 🚫 Not a Food Bank: It's important to note that our Community Fridge is not a food bank. Swansea has several food banks available for those in need. We are here to create a space where surplus food finds a new home and a community spirit flourishes. 🌈 Operating on Trust: The Community Fridge is for everyone, fostering a sense of shared responsibility for our environment and each other. As we move forward, let's continue this amazing journey together. When attending our Fridge, please be mindful of those around you and our local residents. We want to be able to operate within the true spirit of a Community Fridge. Please bring your own standard sized carrier bag and a suggested donation of £2.00 when you visit us. #swanseacommunityfridge #reducefoodwaste #respectothers #CommunitySupportingCommunity #sharingiscaring #swansea #foodwastewarriors #goleudy

Know that we have a right to food? Angry that this isn’t a reality? In the UK, nearly 10 million adults are food insecure and less than 0.4% of public spending goes to support farming and food production. Farmers are struggling to make a living. Our food system fails to nourish us. And yet food is a basic human right, protected under international law. There is work to be done. The right to food is a powerful tool for change, but without constructive and collaborative work to make it tangible, it will remain an empty slogan that fails to make a real difference. We are fundraising to begin paving the way to a right to food in the UK. We need your support - donate to our Big Give #GreenMatchFund campaign today, and your donation will be doubled, at no extra cost to you. Working with organisations and communities across the UK, we’ll host workshops and conversations to unlock what a right to food and food sovereignty could really look like. This will galvanise the right to food as an important tool for change, ensuring that: people understand their rights and their power to shape food systems; and decision makers understand their duties to build resilient, nourishing food systems. The campaign is open for one week only - 18th - 25th April! Donate here: https://buff.ly/43CZb5K

CALLING all community non-profit and service organizations who want to be a part of the food insecurity solution by bringing a fun, interactive, community-building food drive event to your community. While we’re all still enjoying the dog days of summer, it’s the perfect time to think about ‘Fall Fundraising’. With higher food prices and increasing shortages affecting us all, Sharecrows.org offers a creative, grassroots solution to restock community food banks by turning scarecrows into Sharecrows. What’s a Sharecrow? A Sharecrow is a scarecrow display with a bin for collecting non-perishable food items to help restock local food banks. As communities across North America face varying degrees of food bank shortages, this is the perfect event to replenish food bank supplies. Sharecrows.org has introduced a straightforward Fall Food Drive event designed for non-profit/service organizations to host in their communities. They’ve done all the heavy event planning lifting and made it super easy for your organization to roll out. Sharecrows.org presents a triple-win opportunity for your organization to become a "Hunger Hero" and contribute to alleviating food insecurities. A win for food banks facing critical shortages. A win for the community to engage in a fun and interactive scarecrow food drive tour, fostering creativity, community building, and supporting a good cause. A win for your organization, as the funds raised can benefit local food banks and other community programs. Residents and storefront owners who register for participation commit to crafting a scarecrow, displaying it from October 20 to 31, placing a bin for non-perishable food items, and having their address on a Sharecrows Tour Map for residents to take tours, with a supply of ‘treats’ for the scarecrows along the way. As Halloween and Thanksgiving draw near, it's an ideal time for this interactive and innovative Food Drive event. Visit www.Sharecrows.org to learn more about the event and how to become part of the Sharecrows.org community. Be a Hunger Hero in your community; be a part of the solution. Secure your spot now. *All early bird members will be grandfathered into special introductory rates. In the UK, a staggering amount of fresh produce is wasted on farms each year, despite still being perfectly good to eat. This comes at a time when food insecurity has doubled in just three years, now affecting over 13 million people. FareShare's network helps to alleviate this crisis, providing much-needed fresh produce to community organisations, including homelessness shelters, afterschool clubs, and lunch clubs for older people. Since its partnership with FareShare began in 2017, fresh produce giant G's has provided the equivalent of four million meals, supporting thousands of UK charities and helping feed millions of people in need. This milestone marks a significant contribution towards tackling food waste and food insecurity across the country. Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/e3BhCQan

Today, my kids took part in a Harvest Festival at their school, bringing a bag of food to support our local food bank. This tradition just reminds us the reality that many families in our community rely on these donations to make it through the week. It’s heartbreaking to know how many people, including kids, are struggling to get food on their plate, yet 1/3 of all food doesn’t make it to the plate and is wasted. Efforts by organisations like FareShare UK and local food banks are crucial, but we need broader changes to reduce waste and improve food access. 1 in 11 people globally goes to bed hungry every night 2.8billion people can't afford a healthy, nutritious diet - that’s 35% of the global population In June 2024: 14% of UK households were living in food insecurity, including 3M kids 2.5M adults reported not eating for a whole day because they couldn’t afford or get access to food #fighthunger #reducefoodwaste #supportlocalcommunities #gratefulforfood

Georgia Main Food Group Limited is leading the charge in reducing food waste—and they’re doing it through action, not just donations. In partnership with the Immigrant Link (ILCS), Georgia Main staff recently spent a day volunteering to pack and distribute nutritious food hampers for families in need. This experience brought them face-to-face with the people and communities they’ve been supporting through their food recovery program. Since partnering with FoodMesh in 2020, Georgia Main has diverted 2.4 million kg of unsold food—equivalent to more than 4 million meals—to charitable organizations. Read all about it in our latest post on the Quirky Pear blog: https://lnkd.in/gg7QKks6 This is the kind of leadership we need to fight hunger and reduce environmental impact. By not only donating unsold food but also stepping onto the frontlines, Georgia Main is helping to build a stronger, more sustainable future for everyone. A huge thank you to ILCS for their tireless work, and to the Georgia Main team for going above and beyond! 💡 Is your business ready to take action against food waste and make a difference in your community?
