SDG 2: Zero Hunger & Food Waste Reduction in Hospitality Sustainability Development Goals are global goals agreed with by the United Nations. SDG 2 aims to eradicate hunger and promote sustainable agriculture. In the hospitality sector, restaurants and hotels play a pivotal role. Here are three strategies they can adopt: Food Waste Audits: Track and analyze what’s wasted to identify areas for improvement: https://lnkd.in/d6wfCHzz Menu Planning: Creatively use all parts of the food, minimizing waste. Partnerships with Local Charities: Sell surplus food with Too Good To Go and/or donate surplus food to local shelters or food banks. Let’s turn the table on food waste and make strides towards achieving SDG 2. Together, we can make a difference. #BetterTable #QualityEducation #SDG2 #onlinetraining #culinaryeducation #culinaryskills

On World Environment Day we are delighted to officially launch the AIB Community Meals Programme. FoodCloud’s mission is to fight food waste and food insecurity in support of the UN Sustainable Development Goals on hunger and responsible production and consumption in order to help prevent further climate breakdown and alleviate poverty. This new service, which offers ready to eat meals to our community partners, will increase the amount of food we can rescue and reduce food waste within our own operations. It will be especially valuable to charities that are limited in terms of cooking facilities, resources and culinary skills. The meals will be prepared at the FoodCloud Kitchen in Clondalkin, Dublin, with support from AIB’s volunteers and it is a great opportunity for these individuals to be inspired to take practical action to reduce food waste in their own homes, and will enable them to share FoodCloud’s vision - a world where no good food goes to waste - with their families, friends and colleagues. The projected impact of the programme from 2024 - 2026 is the provision of more than 200,000 meals, which will prevent an additional 100 tonnes of surplus food from going to waste. Read the full article on the programme by Iseult Ward and myself on the FoodCloud website - https://lnkd.in/e---26yF #FoodCloud #Sustainability #FoodRescue #ZeroWaste #ZeroHunger #CommunityImpact #foodlossandwaste #sdg12.3 #sdg2 #WorldEnvironmentDay2024

🌍Californians send 11.2 billion pounds of food to landfills each year. Food waste contributes to more than half of methane emissions from municipal solid waste landfills. Meanwhile, too many in our community struggle to afford healthy food. 🌍BFN is the largest Food Recovery Organization (FRO) in Northern Alameda County, each year diverting hundreds of tons of edible, surplus food to neighbors in need while saving the equivalent of 80 years of electricity consumption for one household! 🌍Food recovery is an important initiative that simultaneously addresses food security and climate change. However, the costs associated with sorting and waste hauling the unusable donations can be unsustainable for FROs, often lean nonprofits. 🌍In an effort to change that, we recently partnered with StopWaste and Cascadia Consulting Group to analyze the compost and waste at BFN. Follow the link below to see how this unique compost audit project could yield more support for food recovery efforts in our community. https://ow.ly/nyKY50RkhtU #earthday #foodrecovery

Today is Stop Food Waste Day. Food waste is a global issue with 33% of all food produced being wasted annually. Almost 50% of all fruits and vegetables produced annually are wasted, this is equivalent to about 3.7 trillion apples. If 25% of the food currently lost or wasted were saved, it would be enough to feed 870 million hungry people. We speak a lot about our partnership with FareShare UK and recently shared that we have extended that partnership and increased our fundraising target which is now to fund the equivalent of 275,000+ meals every year! FareShare UK is dedicated to fighting hunger and food waste and believes that no good food should go to waste. As part of this commitment, they redistribute surplus food to charities that turn it into meals for those facing food insecurity. In 2022-23, 91% of food FareShare UK provided was surplus that otherwise would have gone to waste. This equated to 54,000 tonnes of food. 8,500 local charities were served and over 1 million people received food as a result of their work. We have big plans as part of our partnership with FareShare UK and will continue to help support them in tackling food waste. #FareShare #tacklefoodwaste #stopfodwasteday #foodwaste Sources: https://bit.ly/3W8bOUu https://bit.ly/4aHkRjR
