CEO @ Radius Leaders | Nurse Executive, Nurse Leader Development (NLD) Expert, & Lifelong Learner (aka PhD student)
Just in case you needed ANOTHER reminder that whatever you or your frontline #nurseleaders are currently doing to support your frontline #nursing staff is probably NOT working, look at this clip of an article released yesterday from Becker's Healthcare. Scroll down, all the way. Do you see what I see? The goal to engage our frontline staff is not only not being met, but your efforts are going unnoticed and unfelt. WHY??? 1. There's not enough human connection between your leaders and their staff and patients. They've been inundated with administrative burdens, broadened span of control, and slack from other departments that seemingly carry less burden when supplies are short, trays are delayed, and CT scan is slow with no explanation. This leads to leaders who spend all day putting out fires versus the true work of engagement and retention. 2. There's not enough authentic connection when your leaders DO have the capacity to make it. They are in autopilot. They are trying to lead in the post-pandemic world, but much of what they did before is different now...but doesn't need to be. Best practices still apply, but they've probably forgotten some of them. 3. There is WAY too much emphasis on sparkly things that are meant to engage and attract, versus real-time, specific recognition and acknowledgement of challenges and successes...by the person that matters the most when it comes to retention: the nurse leader. There is a way forward, and it is probably not what you are doing today.

Highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse with a passion for improving healthcare outcomes and patient experience. Equipped with a diverse skill set in clinical operations, revenue cycle management, and health care.
To my fellow healthcare managers, how do you combat constant staff call-offs? Managing in healthcare can be challenging, especially with unreliable staff. Last-minute call-ins not only jeopardize patient safety but also strain coworkers. We focus on attracting and retaining reliable nursing staff and CNAs through competitive salaries, a positive work environment, professional development, efficient communication, and recognizing hard work. While these strategies have been effective, prioritizing them to build a reliable and committed team is becoming increasingly challenging. Are nurses calling in without considering the impact on patient care due to burnout or generational factors? How are you addressing these issues in your organization? Share your strategies! #HealthcareManagement #EmployeeRetention #NursingStaff #TeamCommitment #helpmeunderstand #skillednursing #nursingshortage #CNA #CMT #staffing #healthcare
