She’s proven herself in one of the most demanding jobs in this business, constantly creating work that elevated the Channel 4 brand year after year. Nothing is impossible. (How to be an ad-person: Rant No.1) “How to survive as a Saatchi & Saatchi suit.” This is an age old document that was stuck in most of the offices of Saatchi & Saatchi, worldwide. Got hold of this from one of my mentors last week. This document has 209 tips. We can just replace the agency name and the rules apply to any ad agency! I am dissecting these 209 tips with my own points of view, through 209 posts. This is the 1st post in this series! The 1st Tip is Nothing is impossible. Though this is like a universal motivational quote No.1, it weighs more when it comes to agency life. Right from confusing briefs, to unrealistic deadlines of presentations to last minute changes in the art works just before it is supposed to be delivered to the media house. The situation gets into your nerves and you feel it’s over, it’s just impossible. So many times the brief is so confusing, even the client servicing team end up feeling they might not be able to crack it; they are scared to death on how to brief the creative team! Last minute changes in contact number in the dealer panel? Sounds real? However you end up cracking them. The brief, the deadlines, you come out as a winner. Some rules that we need to follow: · Remain calm, consistently. · The client servicing team should be empathetic to the creative team and vice versa. · Be empathetic towards the client. Work as a team and make the impossible, possible. By the way, Impossible is Nothing is my all-time favourite tagline. Apart from the depth of the thought itself, some selfish reasons being it came from TBWA (my first agency) and Sachin was the Brand Ambassador of Adidas for quite a few years. 😊 #agencylife #agencylifetips #adagencytips #advertisingagency #advertising #marketing #nothingisimpossible

This is what Branding is - your value system. It doesnt matter if you are a mega corp or mid size firm or a solopreneur - your value systems determines the approach you take with your brand. The brand ends up being a reflection of the people who own it. Saatchi & Saatchi absolutely knocked this out considering it was inside one of their offices and not an advert. Now Im sure there would have been many a tumble trying to live up to all, but if the goal is to live it to the letter, you truly have a solid foundation for a brand. #branding #strategy #personalbranding

When I was the Regional Creative Director of Saatchi & Saatchi, I stumbled across this poster in our Auckland Office. It was a wonderful instruction guide for every account service executive in the agency. These principles are what made Saatchi one of the greatest advertising agencies in the world in its heyday. Here are some of my favourite nuggets from the 209 pearls of wisdom. 1. Nothing is impossible. 5. Think Big - big ideas lead to big results. 28. Progress, not process. 34. Know more about your clients' products or services than they do. 65. There are those who listen and those who wait to speak - the latter work for the other agencies. 69. Create energy, don't drain it. 82. Clever questions are usually better than smart answers. 97. Never be asked twice. 122. When was the last time you met a successful cynic? 125. The best way to win a big victory is to win small ones along the way. 135. Take pride in your honesty. 161. Perception is reality. 167. The expectations on agency suits have (thankfully) evolved since this poster was created by Saatchi & Saatchi back in the day.... but we love the insight it gives into the agency mindset back in the days when MadMen was more reality than fiction.
