MeetEngland was delighted to join our fellow European partners and members of the Strategic Alliance of the National Convention Bureaux of Europe this week in Edinburgh. The Alliance is a network of colleagues from across Europe who work together and share best practice to accelerate progress in areas affecting the business events industry. This week we talked all things AI, plans for the forthcoming ‘Convene for Climate’ conference, the ongoing development of the new sustainability hub for events and current business travel trends. Thank you to VisitScotland Business Events for being wonderful hosts – great to see our European partners again this week! VisitEngland

(3/8) What did we learn at the first Impact Day of VISITFLANDERS Convention Bureau, #MEET4IMPACT#MEET4IMPACT and Global Destination Sustainability Movement (GDS-Movement)? That the future of the industry can be summed up under the motto “from more conferences to better conferences.” To put that mission into practice, VISITFLANDERS Convention Bureau developed a complete Impact Methodology, based on the “Theory of Change”. This methodology allows associations to ✅ define their impact objectives ✅ mobilize the stakeholders ✅ measure their impact ✅ communicate their success Gemmeke De Jongh (she/her) de Jongh explained the impact methodology in the clearest way possible: with the video below. #impact #associations #conferences

Hi October’s been a busy and hugely enjoyable month. It started at World Aviation Festival in Amsterdam, which was followed by Blue Earth Summit and culminated with the #NetZeroFestival in London this week. The highlight however was chairing a roundtable, in partnership with edenseven, at the top of The Gherkin on #DeliveringSustainableOutcomes. As the sun came up over London’s skyline, it was a privilege to lead a stimulating debate between corporate leaders from a range of sectors across - Construction, Development & FM, Industrials, FMCG, Travel, Energy, Data Centres, PE Investors and Investment Banks. #Sustainability, #Net Zero, #Decarbonisation (now #Defossilisation?), and the #ESG agenda more broadly, are contentious, expensive, operationally challenging and regulatorily nightmarish subjects for businesses to navigate. None of these are going away and the complexity of these issues will grow, requiring ever more thoughtful leadership. The key themes from this month for me are: Collaboration across value chains and pan-industry is critical to solve the biggest challenges and it’s the BIG things that we should be focusing on. Most of the quick wins have been realised and with some seriously hard yards ahead, we need to be more ambitious. Capital has a choice of location. Policy needs to be shaped on this basis to de-risk investment into the areas of the economy that have until now not had the level of focus required. The regulatory environment needs to be appropriately managed for corporate leadership to spend more of their time and resources focused on sustainability led innovation and value creation. We need regulation, but we’ll get more people on the (electric) bus by talking about clean growth opportunities, not clean audits. Thank you to those I've met over the last three weeks and to all of those who joined us yesterday. Tim Hartnell, Pete Nisbet, Drew Davy, Ruth Dobson, Helen Herd, Kim Sides, Isabelle Bland, Marian D’Auria, Laure Philippon, CFA, Matthew Wakefield, Clare Twinning, Zarreen Mokaddam, Franck Crosnier, Devan Bala and Danila Gjini. Big thanks to Lucy Roberts and Isabelle Hanby for all of their help organising and keeping the show on the road.

We are very pleased that the United Nations has chosen our solution to calculate the footprint of its event 'The United Nations Decade of Ocean Sciences.' When events are organized, we usually do not take into account the impact they have on the environment, with emissions being generated from electricity consumption, logistics, catering, and more. That's why calculating the #carbonfootprint of Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibitions is the first step to embrace sustainability. Have you ever thought about making your company's event carbon-neutral? Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dMuQ2Q9t

Per the United Nations the 7 key causes of climate change are: 1. Generating Power 2. Manufacturing Goods 3. Cutting down Forests 4. Using Transportation 5. Powering Buildings 6. Producing Food AND 7. Consuming too much In an ideal world we would all take heed and radically reduce our own (and our organisation's) contribution to these causes. The reality however, certainly in the developed world, is that the desire to have nice food, nice drinks, nice clothes, a nice house, entertaining activities etc will not suddenly go away. But with a shift of mindset, there are ways that we can continue to enjoy many of these things, but in a more environmentally friendly way. With this in mind, that's what today's panel discussion "The Art of Recycling, Upcycling and the Circular Economy" at the CLIMATE ON CULTURE Conference in Galway will be all about. I'm really looking forward to moderating the panel and learning from our expert speakers Sara Nash (Atlantic Technological University), Simon Noble (Fíbín Media) and Sharon Keilthy (SustainabilityWorks Ireland and Jiminy Eco Toys). Agus é seo ar intinn againn, sin an t-ábhar a bheidh á phlé ag an bpainéal inniu "The Art of Recycling, Upcycling and the Circular Economy" ag an gcomhdháil CLIMATE ON CULTURE i nGaillimh. Táim ag súil go mór le cathaoirleacht a dhéanamh ar an bplé agus le foghlaim ónár gcainteoirí saineolacha. https://lnkd.in/epzwf-Pf Idaho Museum of International Diaspora TG4 CREW Galway Údarás na Gaeltachta Galway Culture Company Trevor Ó Clochartaigh
