The lessons learned are the lessons taught.
Before the iconic Savannah Bananas 🍌, Jesse Cole ran the Gastonia Grizzlies out of North Carolina. 🏟️ I stumbled upon the Grizzlies during a college summer ball search for teams with the highest attendance. Playing there helped shape in part my current perspective on leadership, teamwork, and community. I reached out to the head coach with a cold email, hoping for a chance to play in front of the thousands of fans the team attracted each summer. To my surprise, they welcomed me aboard. That summer was a whirlwind of unforgettable moments and invaluable lessons, but here’s a few nuggets: 1. **People first:** Every decision revolved around players and fans, creating an inclusive and electric atmosphere. 2. **Continuous improvement:** Jesse never settled; he always sought ways to elevate the experience for everyone involved. 3. **Fun breeds success:** Who says you can't win in tuxedos? Our unique uniforms were a testament to the joy and camaraderie that fueled victories. 4. **Blurring the lines:** There was no distinction between players and fans; we were all part of the same passionate community. 5. **Purpose over profit:** Selling out the stadium wasn't the end goal; it was the natural result of creating something truly special. Little did I know, those summer days in Gastonia would foreshadow the incredible journey of the Savannah Bananas. Witnessing their rise from the sidelines has been a privilege, knowing I played a small part in what’s happened today. It's a reminder that greatness often emerges from unexpected places, and every experience offers a chance to learn and grow. 🌱 Who or what experience in your life taught you the most?

DID HOU KNOW? The Astros needed help with attendance in the early 70s, so “Foamer Night” was created. The premise was simple. If the Astros hit a home run while a designated scoreboard light was on fans would win free beer until the end of the inning. The Astros did not hit many homers in those years, so the promotion switched to an Astros pitcher striking out an opposing batter. The most notable “Foamer” is most likely in 1976 when Larry Dierker recorded a strikeout with the Foamer light on. Most of the crowd immediately strolled to the beer stands, which resulted in many of them missing the final outs of what turned out to be the fifth no-hitter in Astros history. Whilst the ref cam view on scrums is interesting, I would love to have an eye tracker on them to see where their focus is at various stages. We have heard him comment on elbow angle and hip height today but it will be impossible to watch both teams and both sides of the scrum in detail. And different officials are bound to focus on different areas. Would definitely be interesting to find out if individuals are consistent in what they look for or if it varies not only between different officials but within the same official in the same match. #eyetracking #sportscience #rugby #sixnations #referee

What a crazy opening six rounds of the #EnergiaAIL 👀 Some teams have made massive improvements since their campaigns last season, others have slipped slightly with their scoring ways, and others have been able to maintain their scoring and defensive abilities. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the season unfolds and how this stat reflects in the league table! #statistics #rugby #rugbyunion #sportsanalysis #sportsanalytics #analysis #rugbyanalysis #coaching
