"Biopharma marketing has an omnichannel problem," wrote Nick Paul Taylor in Fierce Pharma earlier this summer. Taylor was covering a survey of senior pharma execs by UK-based Graphite Digital, which reported that 89% of respondents were implementing omnichannel in some form, yet nearly 80% said it's had little to no impact on customer engagement. Why? They cited: • Internal structure • Mindset and culture • Lack of internal communications • Unpreparedness for change • Friction on teams • Resultant data challenges It’s a tale as old as time: digital transformation initiatives absent change management support are less likely to succeed. Widely referenced statistics from firms like McKinsey, BCG, and Everest Group peg “failure” rates north of 70%. Regardless of the merits of any statistics, let’s agree that where there’s a great deal of smoke, there’s fire. And if insanity is chronically repeating the same behavior yet expecting different results, then we’re insane to invest in omnichannel transformation without fully supporting people, process, and technology change.
