Interstate 30 is a heavily trafficked corridor that connects Little Rock, Arkansas, to Dallas, Texas. In Southwest Arkansas near the city of Arkadelphia, two aging bridges on this thoroughfare provided passage over the De Roche Creek. In 2017, the time had come for the crossings to be replaced due to almost continual repairs being needed. The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) and Michael Baker International utilized an innovative Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) method known as a lateral slide to replace the existing structures. This was notably the first time that a lateral slide had been used in Arkansas. Under this method, the new bridge superstructures were constructed next to the existing bridges on temporary falsework. Once complete, the existing bridges were demolished, and the new bridges were slid into place. The new bridges now accommodate three lanes of traffic in each direction, allowing more people and goods to pass over the creek and reducing delays, which can have economic benefits while also reducing emissions and travel times. We partner with agencies nationwide to ensure local bridges are safe and dependable for generations to come. The Vermont Agency of Transportation selected us as the Prime Consultant for Phase 1 design services to rehabilitate nine bridge structures along the Green Mountain Railroad in southern Vermont. The $1.6 billion State Highway 183 reconstruction in Texas faced unexpected hurdles, including a crucial grade change for drainage correction. The Operations Manager at Cheyenne Construction had revealed a surprise road elevation of up to four inches after utility manholes were already in place. Cheyenne Construction's solution? Enter American Highway Products Pivoted Turnbuckle Manhole Risers. The Texas Department of Transportation approved the grade match, enhancing project safety and efficacy. Incorporating adaptability, the risers were custom-sized and stackable for varying pavement thicknesses, allowing for over 550 of our risers to be seamlessly integrated.
