The end of financial year is looming (how are we already in June!?), so here are some ways you can dig deep and support LGBTIQ+ communities this Pride Month! 🌈💖 We know that for every $100 of government funding LGBTIQ+ organisations receive just 6 cents, and for every $100 received by Australian charities, just 5 cents flows into our communities. But we want to change that, and together we can! Aurora works hard to create funding opportunities specifically for the organisations and initiatives in our communities who are underfunded. These are often the groups who provide vital, and frontline support for the most marginalised within our communities, specifically LGBTIQ+ people with intersecting marginalisation. ‘What Makes a Great Charity’? 😊 🏆📢 Here is what Loredana Fyffe of Sydney Community Foundation had to say; Great charities come in all forms, shapes and sizes. A strong vision and the unwavering passion of its leaders are important, as is the ability to ignite hope and possibility. It is this vision that becomes the guiding light, navigating through challenges and inspiring collective action. As the CEO of Sydney Community Foundation, I've come to understand that a clear, compelling vision serves as the cornerstone, rallying supporters and stakeholders towards a common purpose.  It is also vital for charities to listen to the communities they serve. As a place-based organisation, we have fostered deep connections with the grassroots organisations in our local neighbourhoods over the past 20 years. Partners, donors and grantees value being part of a broad, generous, connected community and actively work to advance community-driven solutions. Leaders also need the passion and tenacity to see their vision through. Passion fuels perseverance in the face of adversity, propelling the organisation forward even when the path seems daunting. Real privilege to be attending The Wheel #CharitySummit 2024 in Croke Park today, where over 600 charity leaders and representatives are part of a dialogue for the future of the non-profit and charity sector. Minister Joe O'Brien of the Department of the Rural and Community Affairs and The Wheel's CEO Ivan Cooper were keynote speaker. Key messages have been: >National Philanthropy Council has been launched to champion why Ireland needs to develop this across corporate and individual giving >Celebrate 30 years of community employment schemes that have changed thousand's of lives >The Non profit sector needs to adapt and innovate, and stand united in the face of growing questioning of it's voice in a majority state-funded charity model >There are 12,000 charities in Ireland, of which 4,000 are educational, showcasing how the Government is incredibly dependant on charity expertise to provide national services >Finally, and crucially, The Wheel's core messages is that 70% of funding to charities from Government needs to be sustainable multi-annual funding with a whole of Government partnership approach

The next report from the illustrious @John McLeod at JBWere 'The Bequest Report' has been released 👇👇 . A must read and rather timely after the Philanthropy Australia conference this week. Looking back on my notes from the launch series..... I'd noted the change, via ABS data updates that the intergenerational wealth transfer had increased from $3.4 to $5.4 trillion, yet only 1% of this is directed toward charities through bequests. My notes from the event also underscored John stressing the importance of aligning organisational goals with bequestors' motivations. Addressing the "What's In It For Me" (WIIFM) factor is crucial to unlock this potential. How we answer the question, "What will be done with the bequest?" is pivotal for future impact. I can't wait to get into the detail. Thanks to the team JBWere for continuing to share impactful insights like this for the sector. One of the projects I have especially enjoyed working on at Vidir (and for other organizations) has been the creation of Values branding and strategy. Finding out what values the company already operates by and then creating memorable structure around those values. Values shouldn’t just be words you sometimes reference in company literature. They should be memorable, actionable, and integrated into all you do.

After 18 months of research we are very proud to launch ‘The Bequest Report: Reshaping Australia by passing on more than assets’ - https://lnkd.in/e8G5m5yf Why is this research on Bequests relevant now?  Because this period of wealth transition is a once in a generation opportunity to unlock significant pools of capital, which have accumulated in many Australian households, for social impact. Some key observations to whet your appetite: ·       We estimate total inheritances will be approximately $150 billion in 2024 ·       Only 1% of this amount will go to for-purpose organisations (compared to 4.4% in the USA and 3.7% in UK). ·       In Australia, bequests currently make up approx. 0.6% of total income for charities (compared to 1.8% in the US and a significant 4.5%in the UK) ·       Over the next 20 years, we estimate a massive $5.4 trillion will move across generations. The size of the prize is obvious: if we can lift of bequest percentage from 1% to 4-5%, then we can increase the flow of capital by tens of billions of dollars to help address some of the many pressing social and environmental needs. Our aspiration with this report is to provide high quality insight to help everyone across the social impact ecosystem to develop and implement more effective strategies. We look forward to working closely with our for-purpose and private clients to help them turn these insights into strategies that help them achieve their ambitions.
