⏰ Last chance to register for the EXACT Public Days: In less than five (!) days registration will close! 🛬 You should attend if you are interested to hear and discuss about the latest findings, aircraft configurations and technologies researched in our EXACT projects. Our institute is leading EXACT, which is the largest and most comprehensive aviation research study ever conducted by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) - and probably one of the world’s largest holistic studies on aircraft concepts in a sustainable air transport system! Can the air transport of the future be economical and at the same time drastically reduce its impact on the climate? With the right technologies, it can - provided they are economical and in harmony with the overall aviation system (global flight routes, energy sources, airport and energy infrastructure, life cycle, etc.). 20 participating institutes analysed and compared different technologies (hydrogen, batteries, SAF, etc.) - and designed future aircraft configurations (concept level) within this project. The most promising aircraft configurations from EXACT will now be investigated further and more detailed in the second EXACT project. We are looking forward to seeing and discussing with you on 7 and 8 May 2024 in Hamburg Finkenwerder (ZAL)! The event is free of charge and open to experts, the press and the interested public. For more information and to register (until 31 March 2024!), please go on the event's site: https://lnkd.in/e6zFW7bN If you are a member of the press and interested in attending a press briefing on 8 May, please also contact kristina.welge@dlr.de. #EXACT #sustainableaviation #reducingclimateimpact #research #dlr

🏆 Only a few hours left... ...before the winning team of the 8th DLR Design Challenge of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) is announced! At the closing event in Hamburg today, the six participating teams will present their concepts to the judges. The participating teams were tasked with designing an economical and climate-friendly short-haul aircraft for use in a regional route network from the year 2050. They had the freedom to choose the passenger capacity and range of their concept to most efficiently serve a given route network. After the judges have evaluated the technical reports, the teams must now present and defend their results in this final step. Afterwards, the jury will meet one last time to determine the final winner. Aviation faces enormous economic and ecological challenges. Therefore, revolutionary new ideas and approaches are required to shape the aviation technology of the future. Since 2017, students have competed annually in the #DLR Design Challenge with their forward-looking aircraft designs. 🏅🛫 More information can be found here 👇 https://lnkd.in/eCRV7p3d #SustaiableAviation #Education #DesignChallenge #Innovation

Take a glance at our latest project!
Great project starts with a great kick-off! We celebrated our impressive proposal success with an equally impressive kick-off in Delft. TRIATHLON is a Horizon Europe project, which aims to develop disruptive approaches to design low-emission hydrogen-electric powertrains for megawatt-class aircraft. Funded by the European Union and CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency, the project involves 8 partners: Materials innovation institute M2i, Delft University of Technology, Technische Universität Dresden, Ergon Research, Sabanci University, Cryomotive GmbH, Lithoz and AMIRES. For the project`s Kick-Off Meeting, the consortium gathered at Delft University of Technology, Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, on 23-24 January 2024. During the two days, we discussed the project plan and expected impacts and we had the chance to visit the university`s Aerospace Manufacturing Technologies Laboratory, the SAM XL Field Lab and AeroDelft students who are building hydrogen-powered aircraft. TRIATHLON can also count on an impressive External Advisory Board, which will bring their expertise along with the project. Alain Lefebvre and Askin T. Isikveren from Safran, Claude Andrieux-Lamy from H2PULSE, Giuseppe Blasi from Avio Aero and Emrah Turan from GE Aerospace Turkey honoured us with their presence and gave valuable insight into our workplan. Our sincerest appreciation goes out to our Project Officer Hugues FELIX for joining us and for helping us set our priorities. Many thanks to Delft University of Technology and Materials innovation institute M2i, for the perfect organization and the unforgettable boat ride on the canals! Follow us and TRIATHLON project on LinkedIn to get updates on our activities and findings. #TRIATHLONproject #HorizonEU #Aviation #Decarbonization

Ascend team members Stephen Roebuck and Ashraf Miah are attending the Sustainable Hangar of the Future for 2050 [1] conference at Cranfield University on Thursday 23rd May. This conference will explore the fast-developing area of sustainable hangar technology with a focus on achieving Net Zero 2050. The conference rightly notes that “[h]angar (and ramp) operations can have a major impact on operational performance – for example, aircraft collision damage, energy usage, speed of turnaround, waste management, continued use of paper-based systems, no fault found.” At Ascend Solutions we have deep aviation knowledge and between us have tackled the same issues individually from our respective former employers of Lufthansa Technik, Airbus and Rolls-Royce. Today, we can combine that experience with the application of modern AI Driven Automation to address many of the challenges highlighted in this conference. It is a sad reality that much of the data that could be used to tackle these issues is still (as the conference agenda highlights) is stuck in paper form or equivalent paper form such as PDF; electronic but still not in an easy machine readable format. Fortunately, we seeing a shift to tackle these issues from companies such as ourselves. If you’d like to learn a bit more about what we can do in this area then please say “Hello!” at the conference or send us a message. Full conference details and if you’d like to join us are available at the Royal Aeronautical Society website [2]. Are you also attending? Leave a comment.
