Today, your Air Force turns 77 years old! On September 18, 1947, the Department of the Air Force was created under the National Security Act of 1947. Formerly the Army Air Corps, we celebrate standing up as a separate service 77 years ago. For the past eight decades, the United States Air Force has dominated the skies and provided close air support for our troops on the ground. Air support for the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps and our own supporting forces to fly, fight, and win without fail. We have exhibited air superiority in every major battle this country has participated in. Superiority. Air Dominance. Owning the skies. I realize some people aren't necessarily comfortable with these domineering words. I understand that the idea of going to war doesn’t sit right with some people.  Make peace, not war.  Well, the United States should exhibit these attributes with our fighting forces rather than have countries who would rip the very fabric of this republic out from under us. Peace through strength is a better posture, a better plan to protect this country and all we hold dear. I am a trustee for the Air Force Museum Foundation. If you haven't been to Wright Patterson Air Force Base just outside of Dayton, Ohio, you need to plan that trip. You will be WOWED with five hangers of air history.  Plan to spend the entire day.  It will only cost you time, gas money and a bite to eat, because the Air Force Museum is FREE. This Memorial Day we recognize and honor the sacrifice of our service members. We remember those we lost and are grateful to every soul who fought for our country. Thank you to our American soldiers, veterans, military, and service workers. May God strengthen those still in the field and may there be a safe trip home. My most vivid and most painful memory in 23 years in the US occurred on this day 23 years ago. We lost too many innocent families that day. And so many more since then - brave, selfless people who sacrificed their life so we wouldn't have another 9/11. We cannot be safe without military families. As we remember and mourn those who we have lost today, please consider expressing gratitude to military families who sacrifice every day to keep us safe. Here are some options... 1. Thank them for their service 2. Ask them how we can express our gratitude 3. Volunteer in organizations that support military families Help members of military families build fulfilling careers in the civillian sector... 4. Offer free training 5. Conduct mock interviews 6. Offer mentoring 7. Help with job hunting 8. Consider for internships / apprenticeships 9. Offer jobs 10. Brag about how awesome they are from the rooftops Never forget 9/11. Never forget who sacrifices every day since so we don't have another 9/11.

Taking a moment to recognize the true meaning behind Memorial Day. It's more than just a holiday; it's a solemn tribute to honor U.S. military personnel who lost their lives serving our nation. Today, we remember the freedom brought by their courage, and it's our duty to honor their memory by upholding the values they fought for. Have you ever wondered what core values the DoD and each Service live by? Here they are: DoD: Duty, Integrity, ethics, honor, courage, and loyalty. Army: Loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage. Marine Corps: Honor, courage, and commitment. Navy: Honor, courage, and commitment. Air Force: Integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do. Coast Guard: Honor, respect, and devotion to duty. Many people know what these words mean, but how often do we see someone actually live up to them? A question worth asking ourselves, and a great day to begin living by these values as a way to honor our history and freedom. As we enjoy this day, let's take a moment to reflect, to honor, and to remember the true essence of Memorial Day.
