It is essential for aspiring engineers to see themselves excelling and leading in this field, thereby creating a healthy pipeline of future talent. Proud to be part of International Women in Engineering Day celebrations, and this year's theme “Enhanced by Engineering”, at Baker Hughes. In honor of #INWED , I had the pleasure to moderate a panel with four amazing female engineers: Sakthi Devi, ; Shuli (Amanda) Lyu, Alice Yan and Amrith Kaur. The session started by Alessia Magnone who shared an inspiration introduction showcasing an positive progress on how a #diverseworkforce is embracing the #energyindustry. The discussion focused around reinforcing the below fundamental principles as : - Importance of diversity not only in terms of gender, but also in term of expertise to be able to offer different perspective in the #engineering & #technology workplace that reman crucial for the #energyforwardstrategy and personal tip to encourage , motivate and constructively challenge for the young generation of engineers. - How new ways of #collaboration with universities form a simple basket to talents intake to opportunities to obtain #insights from fresh and passionate eyes can accelerate the learning of new area for cleaner and affordable energy. One feedback that captured my surprise was related to the question : Did you have an engineering role model that inspired you? Most of the answers referred to family member or coach met at the beginning of the career ..this is for me an additional #responsibility to be aware of when the young generation approach us for suggestions , mentorship, or coaching. 

This year's “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day” had more momentum than ever, reflecting the growing passion and commitment to bridging the gender gap. 💡 One standout trend is interest in renewable energy. Young women are not only keen on engineering but are also aware of the need for sustainable solutions. They desire to use their engineering skills to tackle climate change, demonstrating environmental consciousness combined with technical acumen. 🌍🛠️ Robotics is another fast-growing interest. Many girls are fascinated by the world of AI and the possibilities it brings. They are eager to be part of a world that integrates technology and creativity. 🤖💡 It's inspiring to see this shift, as these young women break barriers in male-dominated fields. But it doesn't stop there. We ought to nurture their curiosity, encourage their interests, and provide the necessary support to ensure they continue on this path. Here’s a glimpse into her inspiring journey and vision for the future:   Harriet's role involves collaborating with stakeholders and managing a variety of projects, ensuring no two days are ever the same. Her work focuses on ground-breaking areas such as Hydrogen Blending, Synthetic Fuels, and managing the National Transmission System (NTS), which she describes as both exciting and dynamic. Harriet’s journey into engineering began with a love for problem-solving and a degree in Energy and Environmental Engineering from the University of Sheffield. Encouraged by female engineers she met along the way, Harriet was inspired to pursue a career where her skills and passion could thrive. She highlights the importance of continuous learning and networking, noting how these aspects make her job at National Gas deeply fulfilling. Looking ahead, Harriet sees a promising future for women in engineering but acknowledges there is still work to be done. She says “The goal is to reach a point where engineering is seen without a gender qualifier. Progress continues, but we must start with children, giving them role models in any profession, so they never question if they can do something but instead ask why wouldn’t they?” Harriet advises young women considering engineering careers to seize every opportunity. "All it takes is 30 seconds of courage to change your path," she says. "Keep learning and remember you’ve earned your place."
