    💹 Talking about the 'Business' in Therapy As therapists, we’re often comfortable discussing the most sensitive topics with our clients—grief, trauma, relationships—but when it comes to conversations within our community, certain topics can feel almost taboo. Money, business, and the practicalities of running a practice often fall into this category. Yet, these are the very conversations we need to be having. Understanding the financial and business aspects of our work isn’t just about survival; it’s about sustainability and thriving as professionals. We can’t serve our clients effectively if we’re struggling to keep our practices afloat. Talking openly about fees, financial boundaries, and the business side of therapy shouldn’t be uncomfortable—it should be empowering.     Yesterday as part of the professional doctorate we spent a whole day discussing ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy) and it continues to be a therapy I align with quite a lot especially in the context of health conditions. This is was further exemplified when I attended the unravelling pain event and saw themes of acceptance and how important it was to live a rich meaningful life doing what matters to you which is what ACT can support with.     Changing the perspective - what can we learn? Within supervision, therapist bring cases for discussion, exploring clinical decision making, review clinical reasoning or seeking guidance on what to do next or reassurance that they made good decisions. I’d like you to consider if your treatment plan might change if you look at the situation from a different perspective? Can you talk about it from their perspective? Can you put yourself in the child or young persons place? Can you see this from where the parent or school are sitting? When we do this, does it change our treatment plans? Does it influence how we might proceed with these relationships? Does it help us understand the others response to some of our suggestions? This a useful tool, a different view on reflective practice and can help us see things in a way we might not have before. Let me know if you do this or if you try it. How do you get on?
