The University of Hull has been placed among the best in the world by the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, for our impact in creating a more sustainable and just future. https://lnkd.in/eBVFJtXq The rankings are based on the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and in SDG17: Partnership for the Goals we’re ranked 12th in the world (out of 2,031 institutions) and 2nd in the UK (out of 69 institutions). We’re proud that the University of Hull’s regional, national & international partnerships have been recognised. For the EEI, these include: Our two Offshore Wind Centres for Doctoral Training, in partnership with Durham University, Loughborough University, Newcastle University, The University of Sheffield and over 40 industry partners to build a sustainable future for offshore wind energy. The Living With Water partnership with the Environment Agency, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Hull City Council and Yorkshire Water to improve regional flood resilience. And our latest partnership, the UK Coastal Resilience Network (COAST-R), will see us working with coastal communities, Aberystwyth University, the University of Glasgow, University of Leeds, University of Liverpool, University of Southampton and a growing network of academic and non-governmental organisations to build knowledge, action and resilience for UK coastal communities and seas. The SDG goals are an urgent call for action for countries to work in partnership, to address global challenges, to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. Along with our University of Hull colleagues, we're delighted to have made such significant progress. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eBVFJtXq

Your carbon offsetting strategy probably isn’t working… “We currently sit on an official University of Exeter panel advising our own university on offsetting, and we have concluded that carbon offsetting should be removed from plans to reach net zero. This panel was initiated by the university executive board, and comprises internationally recognised environmental and sustainability scientists, physicists, engineers, social scientists and writers, along with students. It includes an IPCC author, IPCC reviewer and those who specialise in clinical advice, the circular economy and industry liaison.”

Interesting post from James Dyke which might interest the Higher Education sector, especially those that have a genuine desire to decarbonise their estate… #SustainabilityLeadership SDG 7, 9, 11, 12, 13 +

📌Our project PeakED aims to build capacities and co-develop – through a bottom-up participatory process that involves value chain actors, stakeholders, and policy-makers - relevant policy frameworks across Europe for the establishment of new or upgraded value chains that contribute to the resilience and sustainability of mountain areas to climate change. 🌳Similar to the SDG 15 we are aiming to improve and protect the mountains through the hard work of our partners from all around Europe and the South Mediterranean. 🌍 This project is Funded by the European Union. 🌍 Driving Global Impact through Radiography Education 📚 I’m proud to share that our team in the Medical Radiation Sciences at Charles Sturt University has contributed to advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with our latest paper: “From Classroom to Global Impact: How Radiography Education Advances the Sustainable Development Goals.” https://lnkd.in/gemDs3jG This paper explores the critical role that radiography education plays in driving sustainable healthcare and global health equity. Our findings highlight how radiography education directly supports: ✅ SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being: Through early diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of non-communicable diseases using medical imaging (such as CT and mammography), we help reduce mortality and improve patient outcomes. ✅ SDG 4 – Quality Education: By embedding sustainable practices in curricula, we ensure our graduates are future-ready healthcare professionals. ✅ SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals: Global collaboration with education, industry, and healthcare partners promotes capacity building and equitable access to healthcare in low- and middle-income countries. Our paper calls for greater integration of sustainability-focused education, the use of AI-enhanced learning, and the promotion of remote imaging operations to bridge global health inequities. This work aligns with Charles Sturt University’s 2023 SDG Report, which reaffirms our institution’s commitment to sustainability and community impact. As our Vice-Chancellor Renée Leon says, “Our goal is to foster prosperity, not just for our local communities, but globally.” We are excited to continue our journey toward a more sustainable future for healthcare education and practice. 📘 Read more about our university’s SDG Report: https://lnkd.in/gBa5ShBM #SDGs #SustainableDevelopment #RadiographyEducation #GlobalHealth #CharlesSturtUniversity #HealthcareInnovation #Sustainability #MedicalImaging

New data on #Australia’s fossil fuel exports places us among the world’s biggest climate polluters. New research commissioned by UNSW Australian Human Rights Institute has revealed Australia is the second-largest #climate polluter when calculated by total #carbonemissions from its massive #fossilfuelexports – beaten only by Russia, but ahead of every OPEC country and the United States. Commissioned by the Australian Human Rights Institute through its Australian Climate Accountability Project and undertaken by Climate Analytics, the research measures ‘total lifecycle’ #carbon emissions for Australia’s fossil fuel #exports. It shows they are playing a substantial role in driving #climatepollution and #globalwarming. #esg #responsibleinvestment

Recently, I attended a training session, held by British Council in association with Peace & Justice Network (پیس اینڈ جسٹس نیٹ ورک پاکستان). The purpose of the 4-day workshop was to train potential youth leaders to carry out initiatives to conserve and restore the environment as well as spread awareness. Our workshop was led by Ms. Kirran, and all of the arrangements were handled wonderfully by Ms. Asma Iftikhar. It was a pleasure to meet mentors and students from various backgrounds, united by one purpose, to protect the environment. We did a lot of activities that visualized many abstract concepts. For example: We rolled a ball of yarn, that connected one person to another, as each participant kept saying a word relevant to the previous one, and it visualized how everything is connected. It created a web. (The picture is attached below.) I am very grateful to be able to participate in this event. It was truly a learning opportunity. From our workshop, the students were divided into 5 groups to cover 5 topics, that include: Renewable energy Tree Plantation Water Conservation Climate education Solid Waste Management The topic of my team is Renewable Energy and I will share more about my project in the next post. #PJN #BritishCouncil #Environment #YouthLedActions #RenewableEnergy #TreePlantation #waterconservation #climateeducation #solidwastemanagement #worldbank #worldhealthorganization #worldwildlifefund #publichealth #sustainabilitydevelopmentgoals #SDGs
