As we age, it becomes even more important to prioritize our health and well-being. One of the best ways to do this is by embracing the great outdoors and all the benefits it has to offer. Not only does spending time outside boost our vitamin D levels, but it also has a positive impact on our mental health, helping to reduce stress and improve overall well-being. For seniors looking to take advantage of the benefits of spending more time outside, there are plenty of simple and enjoyable activities to try. Whether it's taking a leisurely walk in the park, going for a bike ride along a scenic trail, or simply sitting outside, there are endless possibilities for enjoying the great outdoors ☀️🌳 #HealthBenefitsofOutdoors #SeniorHealth #GetOutside #MooringsPark #MooringsParkCommunities #LuxurySeniorLiving #Naples #NaplesFL #SeniorLiving #NaplesSeniorLiving #NaplesRetirement #SWFLRetirement #SWFLRetirementCommunity #FloridaRetirement #CCRC #FloridaRetirementCommunity #FloridaSeniorLiving #FloridaCCRC #LifePlanCommunity

In the heart of Calgary, amidst the bustling urban life, lies an extraordinary community of professionals dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities and mental health challenges. These passionate caregivers tirelessly give their all, often placing the needs of others above their own. Yet, it’s crucial to remember that caring for oneself is just as important as caring for others. A recent study highlighted that caregivers, including those in Calgary, are at a higher risk of experiencing burnout, with nearly 40% reporting high levels of stress. This statistic underscores a vital need – the need for self-care among those who care for others. Here are a few ways to ensure self-care is a priority: 1. Scheduled Breaks: Just like the structured support we provide to those we care for, setting aside dedicated time for breaks is essential. Whether it’s a quiet coffee break or a short walk, these moments can recharge you. 2. Professional Support: Utilize available counseling or peer support groups. Sharing experiences and learning from others in similar roles can provide comfort and new coping strategies. 3. Personal Well-Being Activities: Engage in activities that nourish your soul, be it yoga, reading, or any hobby that brings you joy. Mental health is holistic, and nurturing your interests is key. 4. Educational Workshops: Participate in workshops focusing on self-care and stress management. These can offer practical tools and remind you that you’re not alone in this journey. Remember, taking time for self-care isn’t selfish; it’s necessary. As we continue to support our community in Calgary, let’s also pledge to support ourselves and each other. Your wellbeing is just as important as the incredible work you do every day. #CaregiverSupport #MentalHealthMatters #CalgaryStrong #SelfCareIsImportan

I talked a little bit the other day about how being in nature can support our physical and mental wellbeing. That's not the only thing that nature has to offer us though... We are mammals living in this great and amazing ecosystem that we have the privilege of being a part of, and as such we are influenced (whether we recognise it or not) by the changing of the seasons. Living our urban lives in a world that has been made increasingly busy by our human endeavours has distanced us from connecting with the natural rhythms of the earth and has impacted our wellbeing as a result. Living in tune with the seasons can help us to find flow and connect with the sweetness of life. Want to learn how? Join me on 24th March to spend a morning exploring how the Spring can support you to grow and thrive. Spring is finally here, and just like Hamilton, I couldn't be happier about it. Why? Longer daylight hours means early morning dog walks in the park, a non-negotiable for my wellbeing, and Hammy's! The stimulation of the senses with trees and plants starting to bloom. Plus, the warmer weather means it's almost time to ditch the coats and bust out the shorts! But you know what's really got me excited? Beyond the physical changes, what truly excites me about Spring is the chance for greater social connection. As we emerge from hibernation, there's no better time to reconnect, which we know is essential for our mental health and wellbeing. After months of hibernating indoors, it's high time to reconnect, and I want to use this Seasonal change as my excuse. Reach out, and let's make the most of this beautiful time of year. Whether it's a casual dog walk or catching up after work, I'm in! If you're itching to embrace the season and catch up, let's make plans. Use this as your reminder to catch up with those near and dear! #Spring #Wellbeing #Headstrong #Reconnect

It's Mental Health Awareness Week and this year's theme is 'Five Ways, Five Days', focusing on the Five Ways to Wellbeing. The Five Ways is a resource we're very passionate about here at Farmstrong. As our Farmstrong Ambassador, Sam Whitelock says; "Farming, like professional rugby, is a job with plenty of challenges and rewards. There’s always ups-and-downs. That’s why you’ve got to look after yourself. Investing in your wellbeing means you will have something to draw on when you're under pressure. It will also make you healthier and more productive on the farm. International research found that people who thrive had five things in common. The key is to lock them in as small, but regular improvements, so they become a habit. The Five Ways to Wellbeing have made a huge difference to my life." Have a think about how you can incorporate one or more of the Five Ways to Wellbeing in your daily life this week. Just find out what works for you and lock it in. #MentalHealthMonth Did you know that one of the many ways you can nurture your mental health is by spending time in nature? I'm sure you do! It is so good for us and goes well beyond the ‘fresh air and exercise’ recommendations we all know so well, I just had to share a little message about it as part of my #MentalHealthMonth messages series. There has been plenty of research into how important our connection with nature is for our physical, emotional and psychological wellbeing. Spending time in nature can help improve your mood, reduce stress, help you take time out, improve attention and enhance happiness. There is much to learn about just how nature achieves such wonderous things, if you would like to know more about this you can start by here: https://lnkd.in/gAUM73hG Connecting with nature doesn’t have to be difficult either, a walk in the forest, a visit to botanical gardens or a wander along the beach are all wonderful. But if these are not for you or getting there is difficult, visiting a local park, sitting in a garden, or growing your very own plant are also great! If you would like to get some new ideas of how to spend time in nature, check out the Nature Festival, it’s happening now, and there are some great activities you can try to help deepen your connection to nature: https://lnkd.in/g6PY_wA2 As fellow nature lovers, here at Project 18, we all have our very own ways of connecting, and are big advocates for its many benefits. So, take a moment, head outside, sit, ride, scoot, wander, and enjoy. #mentalhealthmonth #naturefestival #project18port
