Nice exchange in Portugal after the presentation of the scenarios of my next film SAFFRON in order to find production and co-production ⵙⴼⵔⴰⵏ / SAFRAN / SAFFRON : Note of Intent ■ We are about to embark on a cinematic journey with «SAFFRON.» My goal is to create a visually emotional and rich work that captures the essence of life while exploring deep themes. In «SAFFRON,» we will delve into a universe where reality and imagination blend harmoniously. Through the character of Houria, we will explore the mystical connection between girls and crocus flowers. When these flowers fade, it is a sign that the girls have experienced violence, revealing a powerful symbolic dimension. The culprit will be represented by the forest monster, a mysterious entity protected by a law that seems to defy human justice. This representation will allow us to address themes of social responsibility and the fight against injustice. In essence, «SAFFRON» will be much more than a simple film; it will be a profound exploration of the most intimate aspects of the human condition, while highlighting the challenges we face in our quest for justice and redemption. #drama #cinema #justice #safran #saffron

The Association of Ukrainian Women in Belgium cordially invites you to the series of #Ukrainian film screenings in #Brussels, Belgium. From Wednesday, February 14th, to Wednesday, May 8th, Comité belge du Réseau européen de solidarité Ukraine is organizing a Ukrainian film festival at the Université libre de Bruxelles. Six movies have been selected, showcasing the diverse landscape of Ukrainian cinema. This includes two classics from the sixties produced in Soviet Ukrainian studios, two recent fiction films, and two recent documentaries. These films aim to immerse viewers in the Ukrainian perspective, providing insight into the strength and tensions within Ukrainian society. They also seek to explain that the current war is not just about territorial conquest by Russia but is also a conflict aimed at dismantling a society perceived as an existential threat by the Kremlin due to its diversity. Each film screening will be followed by a discussion, and when possible, filmmakers will participate via video conference. Additionally, concrete solidarity projects with Ukraine will be presented. All screenings take place in auditorium AZ1.301 (Building A on Franklin-Roosevelt Avenue), with free entry. A voluntary contribution will be requested, and the entire amount will go towards concrete solidarity projects in Ukraine. The films will be shown in their original language (Ukrainian or Russian) with French subtitles. The initiative received funding from the ULB Cultural Commission and was supported by the Dovjenko Center in Kyiv. More details at: https://lnkd.in/eBaQke33

Film Screening of Interest: LYD Join SFU's Centre for Comparative Muslim Studies for a screening of LYD, “A story of a city that once connected Palestine to the world – what it once was, what it is now, and what it could have become.” This screening will be followed by a discussion with Sarah Shamash, Dana Qaddah, and Sobhi Zobaidi, moderated by Adel Iskandar. "This feature-length, sci-fi documentary shares multiple pasts, presents, and futures of the city of Lyd in Palestine/Israel. From the perspective of the city herself, voiced by Palestinian actress Maisa Abd Elhadi, the viewer is guided through the lifespan of a five-thousand-year-old city and its residents. Lyd was once a thriving Palestinian city with a rich history. In 636AD, It was even considered the first capital of Palestine. When the State of Israel was founded in 1948, Lyd became an Israeli city, and in the process, hundreds of Lyd’s Palestinian residents were massacred by Israeli forces, and most of the city’s 50,000 Palestinian residents were exiled. Today, the city has a Jewish Israeli majority and a Palestinian minority and is disinvested and divided by racism and violence. For Palestinians, Lyd’s story is a painful and tragic fall from grace, which is why our film dares to ask the question: what would the city be like had the Israeli occupation of Lyd never happened?" There is a rich and complex history of film in both Africa and Latin America. In the African diaspora, filmmakers such as Ousmane Sembène, Haile Gerima, and Djibril Diop Mambéty have explored themes of colonialism, cultural identity, and the experience of migration. In Latin America, filmmakers like Fernando Solanas, Patricio Guzmán, and Jorge Sanjinés have used film to explore themes of political struggle, social inequality, and the legacy of colonialism. These filmmakers have created a vibrant and diverse body of work that has been an important part of the cultural landscape. #ZIFF23 #aspiration5 #Africanfilmmakers Telco Broadband and Beyond PlayAfrikaTV EcoSureZW DStv

🎞 Inspired by the Yugoslav cinema classic which portrays miners and their role in building the young nation, and which was featured at the pre-opening of SARAJEVO FILM FESTIVAL, I have written an article titled "Tracing Miners Through Time: The Relationship Between EPBiH, Authorities, and the Struggle for Dignity." ⚒ In the article, I discuss the role of authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as EPBiH, in creating an unfavorable position for the miners, but also their dedication that ensures affordable energy for citizens of BiH. #miners #rudari #sff2023 You can read full article on the following link 👇
