How to generate a positive impact on your business?💡🌎 The study (i) mapped what high impact research on #circularity indicators and #circulareconomy actions is reporting; (ii) pointed out challenges and opportunities in the application of circularity #indicators; and (iii) discussed implications for #businesses wanting to generate #positiveimpacts. Furthermore, the work shows non-academic level studies in terms of circularity indicators, such as online tools, websites; and other taxonomy proposals of index-based methodologies. "This report provides an in-depth analysis of the current landscape and highlights the gaps and opportunities within the circular economy to inform and guide future business practices and policy frameworks. Integrating circular economy practices into business models is crucial for driving systemic change and promoting sustainable resource management. However, businesses encounter challenges in measuring and disclosing these efforts due to a lack of standardized metrics and frameworks, which complicates target setting, benchmarking, and compliance amidst a rapidly evolving and inconsistent regulatory landscape. To address these challenges, existing legal frameworks and international standards must be realigned to support a circular economy, necessitating a unified global framework that promotes cross-sector collaboration, efficient capital allocation, and informed policy development." https://lnkd.in/ePMahYqu #CircularEconomyProgress

💡 The Global Circularity Protocol (GCP) by the WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development offers a standardized framework to help companies shift to a circular economy. 🚀 It supports target-setting, measuring, and reporting on circularity, aiming to reduce material consumption, cut emissions, and promote environmental health. The protocol’s expected outcomes include a 4-5% reduction in global material use and significant greenhouse gas and air pollution reductions by 2050. Set to launch in 2025, it includes four workstreams focused on impact analysis, accountability, policy, and science-based circularity targets. 🌐 For more details, you can download the impact analysis at this link: https://lnkd.in/e7KxKB5x.

#IsTimeToAct #CircularEconomy #Nordic countries leading circularity 𝑁𝑜𝑟𝑑𝑖𝑐 𝐶𝑖𝑟𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑟 𝐸𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑜𝑚𝑦 𝑂𝑢𝑡𝑙𝑜𝑜𝑘 2024 study [1] interviewed 809 companies in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden ➡️ highlights: 𝐜𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐲 (𝐂𝐄) 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐚 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 in the coming years. The most common strategies are REDUCE 85% and RECYCLE 74%. These can often by applied without impact business model, organisation and logistics. 📊The Circular Business Index (CBI) serves as a new leading indicator of the expected impact from listed companies in circular transaction. Finland is leading with a CBI of 25%, mostly due to advance REPAIR activities. Interesting insight: NO MEASURE, NO ACTION 🐌🐌🐌, a company that states to apply circular economy without defining targets and/or measuring progress, might not be execution strategy to any significant degree. In summary, Circular capabilities will drive innovation, reduce costs, and future-proof businesses in an increasingly competitive landscape [2]. 🚀 The question every company will need to answer is: 𝐴𝑟𝑒 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑑𝑦 𝑡𝑜 𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒? 🙌🌱♻️🌏 [2] https://lnkd.in/dpDTHiYr [1] https://lnkd.in/d3Cmaz_3

Have you ever heard that reuse is better than recycling, and wondered how this can be measured? 🌿 Exciting News! Our latest research proposes a new method to address this gap. The approach builds upon existing circular economy (CE) indicators and considers the hierarchical levels outlined in the 9R framework and the Ellen MacArthur butterfly diagram technical cycle. Moreover, it leverages the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) fundamental scale as an integration tool to consolidate the suggested indicators into a unified metric termed the “9R circularity index”. This approach offers several advantages: Comprehensive assessment: It suggests a bottom-up approach to measure CE at any level. Improved comparability: The “9R circularity index” allows for better comparison of results across different CE studies. Data-driven approach: The method relies on data to measure progress, making it a practical tool for businesses and policymakers. The study also includes a step-by-step guide and a software tool to facilitate the implementation of this new approach. This can significantly aid in selecting, measuring, and comparing of circular and linear models. Please read, share, and engage with our work. Your feedback is always welcome as we advance towards more sustainable practices. 🔗 Access the open-access article here: https://lnkd.in/gsx5Cfua #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #Environment #EnvironmentalAssessment #MaterialFlowAnalysis #Innovation #Science

ISO Circular Economy standards - a barrier to participation The CSIRO's recent report on the adoption of standards for the transition to a circular economy (https://lnkd.in/gZEu9tFu) tackled the question of barriers to adoption. At the top of that list was "Standards gaps, development and access". Here's the section on access (pp17): "Access to standards: The cost of accessing standards was identified as disproportionately affecting small to medium enterprises (SMEs), which account for over 98% of enterprises in most APEC economies (Hredzak 2020). Access challenges create a barrier to the ability of SMEs to implement relevant standards. It was noted that some standard development bodies (e.g., ISO) were considering the cost structures for public interest standards. The cost of accessing standards was noted to have potentially adverse consequences due to some businesses buying the cheapest possible standard offered internationally." The ISO just released three standards that, together, set the stage for an organisation to adopt circularity as the fundamental philosophy underlying their business. Together, they cost nearly AUD1,000. There's a basic tenet of behavioural economics: make free (or very cheap) the behaviour you want to encourage. The corollary to that is to put a price on behaviours you want to discourage. Given the overwhelming urgency of a global transition to circularity, and the critical role played by standards such as these, the price tag seems completely counter-productive.
