An exclusive look into the Nome to Homer Express Project 🗺️ The NTHE project aims to enhance network resiliency and expand broadband access in by closing the digital divide with a redundant fiber ring. In the event of an outage or other interruption in service, traffic can automatically be re-routed in the opposite direction around the ring. This initiative seeks to connect several Western Alaska communities - starting in Nome to Emmonak, continuing along the Yukon-Kuskokwim (YK) Delta coast to Naknek, crossing terrestrially to Igiugig, across Iliamna Lake to Pile Bay and Williamsport, before ending in a subsea segment across Cook Inlet into Homer - with robust middle-mile infrastructure, integrated last-mile infrastructure and a focus on enabling other last mile providers to extend and improve broadband services to government, Community Anchor Institutions, businesses, homes, and visitors in these underserved areas. What questions do you have for us? #Quintillion #NomeToHomerExpress #Project #DigitalDivide #FiberRing #Alaska #Connection #Community

Having a local presence is so important to build relationships with the communities where we develop.
Another milestone for WestWind Energy happened over the Easter long weekend. We opened our Warracknabeal (Yarriambiack Shire, Victoria) office doors to the community. It was a pleasure seeing so much local interest in our projects. https://lnkd.in/gUU4ZkQQ

This week, the Retrofit Ready team came together to launch the new website www.retrofit-ready.ie for communities and home owners in Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim and Sligo. The Retrofit Ready events have already been attended by more than 3500 people across the four counties as communities are encouraged to consider how they can make improvements to make their homes warmer and cheaper to run. Removing the barriers to retrofitting The types of grants available for home retro-fitting are evolving all of the time and it can be difficult for homeowners to know how best to avail of these supports when making efforts to improve their home's environmental impact. In rural areas, it can also be difficult to engage with the right suppliers due to distances involved. This is where the two Retrofit Champions come in; Carol Durkin, who is based in Sligo/Leitrim and Owen McConnon in Monaghan/Cavan play a key role in their communities and offer support to groups and individuals who are exploring options available to them. Technical and training supports are provided by ATU Contract Research Unit Sligo (Peadar Geelan and Eve Hughes) and Plan Energy John Treacy. By combining the training and technical expertise with a community led approach, the Retrofit Ready Programme has already had a significant impact on the communities in which they are based Collaborative Approach The Retrofit Ready Initiative is led by the Irish Local Development Network, and consists of four of our border Local Development Companies: Sligo LEADER Partnership Company CLG, Leitrim Development Company, Cavan County Local Development, and Monaghan Integrated Development CLG. Technical expertise is supplied by Plan Energy and ATU Contract Research Unit Sligo. These are the micro interventions we can call the step in the right direction for Australian story on Transition to NetZero Carbon future. Togather we can we will…..
IN THE NEWS: Did you see the 7NEWS Australia story on how we’re helping future proof vulnerable communities on the South Coast of NSW from extreme weather events including bushfires and storms? We were delighted to host Tom Hartley at Bawley Point and Kioloa, where we’ve been working with the local community and residents to co-design the first community microgrid of its kind in NSW. Around 100 homes in the region now have subsidised solar or batteries installed, which when combined with a 3MW grid connected battery, will form a self-contained energy system, offering residents reliable and renewable power. The project is on-track to be operational by the end of the year, and will operate autonomously during outages, helping these isolated communities to become more resilient. It’s a win for the community and a win for the environment! Watch the story to find out more! #resilience #energytransition #renewableenergy #powertogether Guy Chalkley, Cheryl Bart, Leanne Pickering, Francoise Merit GAICD FCPA, Scott Ryan, Melissa Irwin, Andrew Pitman, Colin Crisafulli, Peter Langdon, Dr. James Hazelton, Vida Cheeseman, Kate McCue, Anita Catalano, Amanda Findley, Timothy Juhasz, Mathias Erle, Stephen O'Halloran, Troy Kidd, Matt Baxter, Keryn Foreman, Shekhar Kunte, Office of Fiona Phillips MP, NSW Rural Fire Service, Marine Rescue NSW, Shoalhaven City Council Penny Sharpe Albert Pors
