This week, the Retrofit Ready team came together to launch the new website www.retrofit-ready.ie for communities and home owners in Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim and Sligo. The Retrofit Ready events have already been attended by more than 3500 people across the four counties as communities are encouraged to consider how they can make improvements to make their homes warmer and cheaper to run. Removing the barriers to retrofitting The types of grants available for home retro-fitting are evolving all of the time and it can be difficult for homeowners to know how best to avail of these supports when making efforts to improve their home's environmental impact. In rural areas, it can also be difficult to engage with the right suppliers due to distances involved. This is where the two Retrofit Champions come in; Carol Durkin, who is based in Sligo/Leitrim and Owen McConnon in Monaghan/Cavan play a key role in their communities and offer support to groups and individuals who are exploring options available to them. Technical and training supports are provided by ATU Contract Research Unit Sligo (Peadar Geelan and Eve Hughes) and Plan Energy John Treacy. By combining the training and technical expertise with a community led approach, the Retrofit Ready Programme has already had a significant impact on the communities in which they are based Collaborative Approach The Retrofit Ready Initiative is led by the Irish Local Development Network, and consists of four of our border Local Development Companies: Sligo LEADER Partnership Company CLG, Leitrim Development Company, Cavan County Local Development, and Monaghan Integrated Development CLG. Technical expertise is supplied by Plan Energy and ATU Contract Research Unit Sligo. Principal at Town Planning Solutions Tasmanian Division President at Planning Institute of Australia
This is a significant start to deal with the challenges we face to make sure Tasmania remains a great place to live and work for all of us. As planners, we are thinking ultimately about how we all live from day to day. Not just for you or me, but your kids and grandkids. We desperately need strategy that is linked across sectors and agencies, and funded so that it can be implemented. We have the fastest regulatory planning system in the Country, but the strategic support for the future is underdeveloped, The Population Policy picks up some of PIA’s asks from recent campaigns, but these were not very ambitious (as many of my colleagues told me) because we are still trying to build the planning system. More is needed if we are to get the best for Tasmania and Tasmanians from all of the current reforms going on with this, the regional land use strategies, the Tasmanian Planning Policies, linkage to national programs, funding and everything else going on in the planning space at the moment. PIA Tasmania has written to Premier Rockliff to acknowledge the release of the ‘Planning for the Future’ policy. We highlighted the importance of continuing strong leadership at the State level in directing and managing growth across Tasmania. Good strategic planning systems cohesively align infrastructure, housing and economic agendas and provide an effective line of sight between national level priorities such as the National Housing Accord and draft National Urban Policy, and local outcomes. PIA also welcomes the announcement of additional funding for medium density infill development outcomes in our urban environments. This provides the foundation for ongoing leadership in encouraging density done well that delivers liveable outcomes and contributes to great places and communities. We suggested in our letter that support for a small number of pilot projects is the most effective way to use this funding and showcase good outcomes for residents and communities. As part of Bolton Birch’s property management service we often advise on energy issues for commercial property. We have introduced solar power opportunities to several clients where we can balance costs and show a positive difference on finances, selling options and social and environmental factors. One such client said; “We hadn’t really considered a solar installation until our managing agents Bolton Birch explained the benefits. So impressed by the benefits of the installation, we have commissioned further, similar projects at other sites.” #property #commercialproperty #Lease #Chester #Cheshire #Wirral #NorthWales #RealEstate #RICSmember #propertymanagement #building #development #Industrial #premises #InvestChester #InvestWales #InvestCheshire www.boltonbirch.com

In New Statesman "According to the UK Green Building Council, there are 29 million homes in the UK that will need to be retrofitted before 2050, and at least 15 million need to be retrofitted before the end of this decade. Achieving this will require a large-scale, long-term project from government backed by adequate funding, and supported by landlords, homeowners and housing associations. New Statesman Spotlight asked three housing and energy experts to share their views on how the UK can accelerate the retrofit revolution." https://lnkd.in/eHzCeDrk

Pleasing to be with Business NSW Riverina Murray last week and to see them continuing to be on the front foot when it comes to advocacy for our region with the launch of its Housing Now! Campaign. Whether Griffith, Wagga, or Albury, we need to look at ways to improve the housing supply for all of our regional communities – and ensure the government is not just taking a Sydney-centric approach. Building skills capacity locally, expanding the Regional Infrastructure Acceleration Fund to develop much-needed civil infrastructure, creating pathways for Shop top housing over retail development to contribute to the vibrancy of our CBDs, increasing the scope of complying development, and a Regional Design Pattern Book – are all ideas worth pursuing. There is no one quick fix, but Business NSW Riverina-Murray is on the right track by being solutions-based for the regions.

Today tommy barker from The Examiner covered a piece on the Weekend Supplement regarding #coastalproperty and I was delighted to see he included my piece on both Kinsale and Cobh, the popularity of both places and in particular the scale of growth in #corkharbour/ #cobh - I wrote about the market that both places are attracting, the level of investment and for me the future of Cork Harbour from an #renewableenergy perspective - Cork Harbour has always been an Energy Hub and now we are embarking on it becoming the Renewable Energy Hub off the South Coast which is just fantastic news for the communities in the area and for all of us as consumers. So not only are we an attractive area for the person to live and visit, we are now becoming the place to invest in. As mentioned in the article, I have already sold properties to companies within the #renewableenergy space so that they can cater for their employees - thinking ahead for sure - Cork Harbour, Cobh, Kinsale due to their position are unique and will only continue to prosper.
