💫 We created another international project on behalf of Selcuk University! I am happy to share this excitement with you. In Selcuk University coordination, our KA2 project named "Young Green Entrepreneurship Ecosystem", which is supported by the "European Union" with a grant of 250.000 Euros and will last for 30 months, has officially started on 01.06.2024. Our valuable partners that we will work together in our project are "Konya Büyükşehir Belediyesi, (Konya Metropolitan Municipality) Konya Sanayi Odası, (Konya Chamber of Industry) InnoPark (Innopark Technology Development Zone), Bifröst University (Iceland), Umbria Chamber of Commerce - Italy, Universitatea POLITEHNICA din București (Romania). The expertise of each of them in their own field makes our project more valuable. Within the scope of our project, we will first create innovative training modules for young entrepreneurs, mentors, angel investors and manufacturers, which are free from classical training content. We will deliver these modules to everyone completely free of charge through an e-learning platform. In addition, we plan to create an "ecosystem platform" where all these stakeholders, potential funding pools, markets and incubation centres come together. With the help of Artificial Intelligence it is aimed to match stakeholders with each other according to their interests and to solve needs and problems. At the last stage, a policy report will be prepared for policy makers. All achievements will be publicised at an international conference and a panel discussion. We will continue to work and create to contribute to the society and our university both in this project and in future projects. Last week, I attended the tenth anniversary reunion of the MIT REAP - Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has created a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem with significant impact, generating billions in revenue and employment and the REAP programme extends MIT's success globally by forming teams from government, corporate, academia, capital, and entrepreneurial sectors to develop entrepreneurship in other regions. Over 60 international teams, including BeTheSpark from Wales, have participated, sharing insights across stakeholder groups. As part of the REAP festivities, I was asked to be a panellist for a discussion on the role of universities in driving forward entrepreneurship within regional economies, something I have been involved with for the best part of three decades and still am enormously passionate about as regular readers of this column will attest. So what did we learn from the university stakeholder group discussion? Not surprisingly, one of the final conclusions from panel was that enlightened leadership is the key to not only appreciating the key role that universities can play in stimulating regional economies but, more importantly, in developing a strategic approach in making a real difference in supporting entrepreneurial and innovative businesses. Reflecting some of my own experiences, persuading those in power that enterprise and entrepreneurship should form part of the core mission of the university is one of the biggest challenges entrepreneurship academics face every day. This includes ensuring they understand the need to integrate entrepreneurship into core activities for better impact, as highlighted by REAP examples. #universities #entrepreneurship #enterprise

Dear network! Last week marked a significant milestone in our quest to bridge Thirdroom® with partners across the Nordic region. We met with IDEON in Lund, Sweden, to established the "Nordic Valley," an integrated platform designed to synergize universities, start-ups, and green entrepreneurship throughout the Nordic area. In alignment with fundamental Nordic principles like trust, collaboration, democratic welfare, and openess, this initiative aims to serve as a hub for sustainable transition, digital transformation, and interdisciplinary entrepreneurship. Our first milestone was achieved through a EUROSTARS application last Friday in collaboration with IDEON and esteemed partners in Denmark Dataverz Aalborg University. As global challenges grow increasingly complex, we believe that innovative solutions require robust partnerships and interdisciplinary approaches. The Nordic region possesses the necessary elements to tackle these challenges; our task is to integrate these components into a unified framework. The ambition extends beyond infrastructure; it aims to act as a beacon for sustainable entrepreneurship and collaborative endeavors. Covilha in central Portugal may not be the hub of the world, but the city was a great place to exchange ideas with other researchers about #entrepreneurship, #creativity and #innovation. At IECER Entrepreneurship Conference, we talked about a wide range of aspects in the context of entrepreneurship. Covilha was an inspiring place for this. David Zakoth presented our work, in which we explore the question of why people give their time and energy to get involved in hackathons.
