👏 Massive congratulations to the 96 organisations announced on Friday at London Climate Action Week (LCAW) for joining the ranks of TNFD early adopters! It’s fantastic to see more companies committing to nature reporting. → This 30% increase means there are now 416 Adopters of the TNFD! Among the notable new companies are financial institutions Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM), Generation Investment Management and MUFG Asset Management (UK) and a diverse range of companies across sectors including Volvo Group, Ricoh UK, China Mengniu Dairy Co Ltd and ACCIONA. Pippa Howard, Chief Nature Strategist at NatureMetrics commented: “The latest TNFD early adopters cohort shows a positive movement towards more widespread implementation of corporate nature monitoring and reporting that is ultimately required if we’re to hit the nature targets set by the Global Biodiversity Framework. It also suggests that some sectors are more ahead of the game than others, with financial services in particular featuring prominently on the list. The proactivity of these organisations will ultimately help them stay ahead of regulations, navigate nature risks and improve long-term sustainability.” At NatureMetrics, we’re here to help you on your TNFD reporting journey → 🧬🧪Our tools and expertise can assist you with: ➡️ Understanding and implementing the TNFD framework and LEAP process ➡️ Building internal buy-in and aligning your team with TNFD goals ➡️ Identifying and assessing your nature-related risks and opportunities ➡️ Gathering, analysing, and reporting robust biodiversity data ➡️ Setting and achieving science-based targets for nature Want to learn more about how NatureMetrics' nature intelligence can transform your TNFD approach? While we grow ever more worried about #ecosystemcollapse and #biodiversityloss, it's been a rather exciting couple of weeks that provided a boost in optimism. Quick recap with some thoughts peppered in; 1️⃣ Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) launched its Recommendations. ❓ What it is: A framework for companies & investors to disclose nature risks and impacts, developed by a global initiative prioritizing market based and scientific approaches. ❗ Why it's important: Every business relies on nature, either directly or through supply chains, and consequently has an impact on nature. Message to and from the financial spheres, 🛑 Stop treating nature like an "infinite" resource 📈 Enhance accountability 💼 Incorporate nature risks/outcomes into strategic decision-making 🌶 TNFD is a great step forward in aligning the private sector with the current nature crisis, however participation and oversight of the public is very necessary yet seems to be lagging. More info: https://tnfd.global/ 2️⃣ Superorganism became the first (self-proclaimed) venture capital firm to focus on addressing biodiversity challenges and opportunities. 😊 Whether Superorganism achieves its objectives or not, it's a sign that investors are beginning to recognize the potential for high growth in biodiversity related companies. 🙃 Govs & regulatory bodies playing catch up... More info: https://lnkd.in/eHJc5R8E 3️⃣ Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) released its report on Invasive Alien Species. 🖐 major direct drivers of change in nature globally, (1) invasive species, (2) land- and sea-use change, (3) direct exploitation of organisms, (4) climate change, and (5) pollution. 🤯 Impact of invasives on ecosystems and economy much bigger and complex than we acknowledge. 🌍 Cross sector and cross country level coordination needed to alleviate the negative impact. 🌍 Excited to share that I recently participated in the NSPC Environment Quiz, delving into the intricate web of our planet's ecosystems! 🧠🌿 The experience opened my eyes to the fascinating interplay of factors that shape our environment and highlighted the urgency of safeguarding it. 🌱 From the smallest microorganisms to the grandest landscapes, every element is intertwined in a delicate dance that maintains the balance of life on Earth. 🌏🕊️ Our ecosystems provide us with essential resources, regulate climate patterns, and support biodiversity. 🌍🌡️ It's a complex symphony where each note plays a crucial role in sustaining life as we know it. As we delve deeper into the scientific nuances, we understand that the consequences of environmental degradation are far-reaching. 🌪️🌊 Human activities have disrupted these harmonious rhythms, leading to rising temperatures, loss of biodiversity, and altered weather patterns. Our world is at a crossroads, and the decisions we make today will shape the future for generations to come. Securing our environment isn't just a matter of aesthetics; it's a matter of survival. 🌅💧 By preserving ecosystems, we mitigate the impact of climate change, ensure food security, and promote human health. 🌡️🍏 It's a responsibility we all share, irrespective of our backgrounds, because our interconnectedness with nature transcends borders and cultures. Let's embark on this journey together, armed with knowledge and a renewed sense of purpose. 🚀🌳 Whether it's adopting sustainable practices, supporting conservation efforts, or advocating for policy changes, every action counts. 🙌🌏 Together, we can orchestrate a harmonious future for our planet—one where science and stewardship go hand in hand. 🌎🌱 #NSPC #SustainableFuture #GuardiansOfNature

"Economic shocks from the loss of ecosystem services and nature breakdown could exceed $5 trillion" Dr Nicola Ranger, Environmental Change Institute (ECI), University of Oxford (https://lnkd.in/eEpi6Y7z) "To address the interlinked climate and biodiversity challenges, the financial sector needs data accurately defining the historic and ongoing biodiversity impacts of any given asset, company, portfolio, etc. week on week, relative to its peers – to enable meaningful differentiation." WWF Biodiversity Data Puzzle (https://lnkd.in/eS4Xp48V) For me these two quotes summarise the importance of nature and point to the data and insight needed to instigate change. Today Innovate UK have launched a new funding call in this hugely important area - Unlocking nature positive private investment (https://lnkd.in/exZvmRjV) which aims to support companies developing solutions that enable private investors to invest in nature positive projects. Up to £2m is available with project size up to £500k (closing date April 10th). We do need to talk about #biodiversity 👉 Yesterday we held our webinar about “why and how companies can take action on their impact on biodiversity”. Hosted by our co-founder Jeanne Rives, alongside our climate consultant Arthur Félétou and our guest Marie VIGIER from AFNOR Certification 🚨 Beyond the pressing context of urgency vs our economy’s impact on biodiversity, we also reminded our audience about the pressure that exists and will be increasing on companies to take ownership and tackle their impact. Especially coming from the regulatory landscape. Companies simply can’t ignore it or they are putting their business at risk starting today. (Thanks Marie for sharing your expertise on this) ✍ We also shared our expert view, backed with methodologies and concrete examples and tips, on how companies can concretely start taking action in understanding, monitoring and reducing their impact on biodiversity. Opening on the need to take an even further step reinventing companies’ business models. 👀 If you want to find out more by watching the replay of our webinar, please fill this form to get access to it: https://lnkd.in/e6f9Q8XN and if you want to work with us on the matter, do not hesitate to reach out on hello@wedontneedroads.io #sustainability #CSR #businesstransformation

📊 New data from GlobeScan shows that nine out of ten experts (91%) view nature and biodiversity loss as a catastrophic or alarming issue. And 90% of experts say companies need to produce a nature strategy backed by the CEO or Board to effectively protect nature and #biodiversity. Yet according to the World Benchmarking Alliance less than 1% of companies know how much their operations depend on nature. Now is the time for businesses and financial institutions to develop and publish a nature strategy and contribute to the global goal to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030. 📙 Developed by Business for Nature with input from partner organizations and in collaboration with PwC UK, as part of the initiative a new Nature Strategy Handbook has been published which provides a step-by-step guide for all businesses and financial institutions on how to set a forward-looking nature strategy: https://lnkd.in/eK_dnyRE Erin Billman, Executive Director, #SBTN said: "The Science Based Targets Network fully supports the Nature Strategy Handbook so companies can develop credible nature strategies and, crucially, ensure their integration into the boardroom agenda. "#ScienceBasedTargets #ForNature play a pivotal role in the corporate roadmap for nature; empowering companies to undertake ambitious and measurable action where it matters most." 🔗 Find out more about how you can start your nature strategy today and explore the new Handbook: nowfornature.org 🔗 Discover more about science-based targets for nature: https://lnkd.in/dJa9rBh #NowForNature #NatureStrategy #NaturePositive #ScienceBased #NatureAndClimate #EcologicalEmergency #GlobalCommons #SustainableDevelopment #COP28 #NatureAction #ClimateAndNature #OurPlanet

NetworkNature Project Manager 🌿 Senior Expert Nature-based Solutions 🦋 Biodiversity 🦎 Nature-positive Economy 📝 UNEP GEO-7 Expert Peer Reviewer ⚡ New European Bauhaus *** ICLEI Europe
👉 The #NaturePositive Initiative was launched! We are proud to have ICLEI being part of it. Take a look: https://lnkd.in/egBsDZPJ *Today marks the launch of the Nature Positive Initiative, a collaborative effort involving 27 of the world's foremost nature conservation organisations, institutes, business leaders, and financial coalitions. Their mission is to champion the clarity and implementation of the Global Goal for Nature, particularly the concept of 'nature positive by 2030.' *'Nature positive by 2030' aims to reverse and halt biodiversity loss by 2030, measured by improvements in the health, abundance, diversity, and resilience of species, ecosystems, and natural processes compared to a 2020 baseline. This initiative builds upon the momentum generated since 2019, mirroring the significance of the 1.5C goal for climate change. *As global recognition of the importance of a nature-positive approach has grown, so has the urgency for clarity in the use of the term 'nature positive.' The initiative seeks to unite diverse stakeholders, including governments, businesses, and civil society, in a common understanding of this phrase, safeguarding its integrity. *By promoting alignment and collaboration across various sectors, the Nature Positive Initiative aims to mobilise efforts towards the ambitious goal of halting and reversing biodiversity loss by 2030. This objective is now widely acknowledged as pivotal not only for ecological preservation but also for addressing pressing global issues such as climate change, pandemic prevention, food security, sustainable development, and Indigenous Peoples' rights. #naturebasedsolutions #biodiversity
