🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Scotland aims to be Nature Positive by 2030 and restore biodiversity by 2045. We're honoured to have supported this ambitious endeavour through our collaboration with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), NatureScot and the Scottish Government's Marine Directorate. With our state-of-the-art machine learning and eDNA data, NatureMetrics helps Scotland achieve comprehensive and cost-effective ecosystem surveys at a national scale. The study was conducted across four iconic Scottish habitats – marine lochs, freshwater lochs, woodlands, and peatlands. eDNA samples were collected from sites including Loch Lomond, Trossachs National Park and Cairngorms National Park - in a fraction of the time and cost of conventional methods. ➡️ The initial eDNA analysis unveiled a staggering 9,000 different species, including many threatened, invasive, and ecologically important indicator species, offering unparalleled insights into Scotland's biodiversity. Dr Pauline Lang of SEPA said 💬 “This project demonstrated the transformative potential of eDNA for enhancing monitoring across Scotland's terrestrial and aquatic habitats. The scalable technology bridges critical data gaps, complements our existing methods, and will ultimately support us in achieving our ambitious post-2020 nature recovery goals."
