A new future for #sustainableforestry as a #naturalclimatesolution is growing from The Nature Conservancy and BTG Pactual Timberland Investment Group's partnership for U.S. Working Forests. TIG and TNC together have set ambitious targets for an existing and potential future portfolio for positive #climate and #biodiversity impacts through 2031: → 30,000 acres of forest permanently protected → 42,000 acres of forest actively managed to enhance biodiversity → 130 miles of streams with enhanced water quality and aquatic biodiversity → At least 500,000 tCO2e of additional carbon sequestered Download their new whitepaper to learn more about how they're utilizing a mix of innovative approaches to monitor impacts and drive results. https://lnkd.in/e8CmZHPX

Join us in this call to action to protect wildlife habitats and preserve biodiversity for future generations. Together, we can make a difference for our planet and the animals that call it home. Let's work together to save our planet! As humans continue to expand and develop, the natural habitats of countless species are being threatened. Urbanization, deforestation, and industrialization are encroaching on the homes of animals, leading to habitat loss, fragmentation, and degradation. This destruction puts many species at risk of extinction. It is crucial that we find a balance between development and conservation in order to protect biodiversity. Creating protected areas where wildlife can thrive, promoting sustainable practices that minimize harm to the environment, and raising awareness about the importance of preserving natural habitats are all essential steps in mitigating the impacts of human activities on the planet. Without these efforts, we risk losing countless species and disrupting the delicate balance of ecosystems. It is up to us to take action and ensure a sustainable future for all living creatures.

#beesustainable ☝ Today we celebrate World Forests Day, an occasion to reflect on the crucial role forests play in conserving biodiversity. 🌲 This year's theme is 'Forests and Innovation', highlighting the essential link between forest conservation and technological progress, and how new technologies can be key allies in protecting forests. 🤝 Thanks to our scientific partner 3Bee, we have joined the Oases of Biodiversity project, urban and agroforestry habitats that serve as refuges for pollinators and plant biodiversity, created in areas of low biodiversity. In the 3Bee Oases, technology allows us to collect valuable data on the health of the surrounding ecosystem, helping to promote the importance of biodiversity conservation. 🏴 Scotland aims to be Nature Positive by 2030 and restore biodiversity by 2045. We're honoured to have supported this ambitious endeavour through our collaboration with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), NatureScot and the Scottish Government's Marine Directorate. With our state-of-the-art machine learning and eDNA data, NatureMetrics helps Scotland achieve comprehensive and cost-effective ecosystem surveys at a national scale. The study was conducted across four iconic Scottish habitats – marine lochs, freshwater lochs, woodlands, and peatlands. eDNA samples were collected from sites including Loch Lomond, Trossachs National Park and Cairngorms National Park - in a fraction of the time and cost of conventional methods. ➡️ The initial eDNA analysis unveiled a staggering 9,000 different species, including many threatened, invasive, and ecologically important indicator species, offering unparalleled insights into Scotland's biodiversity. Dr Pauline Lang of SEPA said 💬 “This project demonstrated the transformative potential of eDNA for enhancing monitoring across Scotland's terrestrial and aquatic habitats. The scalable technology bridges critical data gaps, complements our existing methods, and will ultimately support us in achieving our ambitious post-2020 nature recovery goals." Financing Nature: Closing the Global Biodiversity Financing Gap, by The Paulson Institute. The Nature Conservancy, and Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability . Key takeaway: To reverse the decline in biodiversity by 2030, [the report] suggests that, globally, we need to spend between US$ 722-967 billion each year over the next ten years. That puts the biodiversity financing gap at an average US$ 711 billion or between US$ 598-824 billion per year. Mission Ocean is helping to close this financing gap with the Atlantic & Arctic and the Danube Lighthouses, which will develop concrete solutions to protect and restore marine & freshwater ecosystems and biodiversity ( EcoDaLLi Project , CLIMAREST , A-AAGORA - Atlantic Artic Agora , DALIA Danube Lighthouse , OCEAN CITIZEN , BLUE4ALL). An Ecotist - massively celebrating the nature restoration achievements of others. Never a "specialist" but inspired by integrated catchment & landscape restoration
ECOtistical post #10 - Having or showing an excessively high opinion of others because of their conservationist ecological practices. Exciting news! Anna Lerner Nesbitt has just announced the new Biodiversity and Nature cohort is officially up and running! Months in the making, this is a really energizing moment for Climate Collective. 🦎 At Climate Collective, they recognize that #climateaction cannot be achieved without addressing #biodiversity and #nature loss. 🌪 We know that #climatechange remains one of the main drivers of biodiversity loss, but only 5% of top 500 companies have set biodiversity targets according to the World Benchmarking Alliance. 🌿 To address this, they are launching a nature and biodiversity cohort to support innovation and technology development. 🌿 Climate Collective's first batch of nature and biodiversity members include eight groups pioneering things like nature #finance, nature positive #investments, biodiversity dMRV, biodiversity #credits, satellite auditing, #forest #restoration and more. 🦎 Check them out 👇 #ecotistical

🌳𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝘃𝘀. 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲?🌳 Protecting our forests stands out as the most effective strategy for enhancing carbon sequestration and nurturing biodiversity. 🚨 Alarmingly, despite numerous campaigns and commitments, the world's forests are vanishing at a rapid pace. It's crucial to understand that even if we manage to match the pace of deforestation by planting new trees, the unique characteristics of forests that make them invaluable carbon sinks and havens for biodiversity — such as large trees, mature ecosystems, and the accumulation of soil — require centuries to develop. 🌱 While tree planting has its importance, it is not a substitute for protecting or restoring forests. However, it remains an essential method in certain scenarios to achieve our conservation goals. First-of-its-kind study shows conservation actions work - and are effective at slowing biodiversity loss: https://lnkd.in/eu2RqQAF A new comprehensive study, led by Re:wild, IUCN, DICE, University of Kent, University of Oxford and published in Science Magazine, looked at the impact of a wide range of conservation interventions globally and over time. “If you look only at the trend of species declines, it would be easy to think that we’re failing to protect biodiversity, but you would not be looking at the full picture,” said Dr. Penny Langhammer, lead author of the study and executive vice president of Re:wild. “What we show with this paper is that conservation is, in fact, working to halt and reverse biodiversity loss.” The paper, which represents the first time anyone has looked at conservation actions comprehensively across the world and across different levels of biodiversity and over time, argues that there must be more investment in conservation, not only from governments, but from companies, private individuals and civil society. This must happen in addition to a move away from investments that harm the planet, like unsustainable consumption and production. Learn more about this study - link in bio.
