At Nexigen, we believe in the power of community and the importance of preserving our natural environments. That's why we're proud to support the Cincinnati Off-Road Alliance (CORA) in their mission to build and maintain sustainable off-road trails that connect and inspire our community- and yes many on the Nexigen team are cyclists including our CEO Jon Salisbury. Founded in 1996 by passionate mountain bikers, CORA has grown into a leading force in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, advocating for over 115 miles of multi-use trails that bring people closer to nature—whether they’re mountain biking, hiking, or trail running. CORA’s work goes beyond the trails; it’s about fostering a vibrant outdoor culture, enhancing connectivity, and promoting environmental stewardship for all. As CORA continues to expand and connect our region’s trail network, Nexigen is excited to play a part in supporting their vision. Together, we’re committed to ensuring that these natural surface trails remain accessible, sustainable, and equitable for everyone in our community. Check out CORA at work. #community #cincinnati

Silicon Valley Adventures: Flying over Atherton, California. We flew over Atherton, California, parallel to Greco Island and the connected Bedwell Bayfront Park on the far right in the San Francisco Bay. Atherton in San Francisco Bay Area, is a small, affluent town in San Mateo County, part of the San Francisco Bay Area. Its history dates back to the 1860s when Faxon D. Atherton, a prominent landowner, businessman, and namesake of the town, purchased the area known today as Atherton. Originally a part of the Rancho de las Pulgas, the town was primarily an area for the wealthy to build their country homes and summer retreats. Atherton was officially incorporated in 1923, maintaining its status as a residential community with a strong commitment to preserving its wooded character and rural feel. One of Atherton's most interesting aspects is its strict zoning laws, designed to maintain large lots and a park-like atmosphere, prohibiting commercial activities within the town limits. Nearby Greco Island, part of the San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge, is a lesser-known but ecologically significant area. This small island, named after a former owner, is inaccessible to the public to protect its delicate ecosystem. It's a vital habitat for various bird species, including the endangered California clapper rail and the salt marsh harvest mouse. Greco Island's marshlands play a crucial role in the Bay's ecology, acting as a natural buffer against flooding and serving as a key breeding ground for marine life. The conservation efforts on Greco Island highlight the balance between urban development and natural preservation, a theme that resonates strongly in the Bay Area's environmental policies. The Eastern Quoll, known as 'Baalijin' (Bellingen) in Gumbaynggirr holds profound significance in our Dreaming stories. As integral characters in our narratives, the quolls embody our connection to the land, serving as symbols of balance, resilience, and the delicate harmony of nature. Their presence in our stories reflects our deep respect for the natural world and our understanding of the interconnectedness of all living beings. The decline of the Eastern Quoll on the mainland represents a loss not only of a species but also of a vital part of our language and culture. By reintroducing or rewilding the Eastern Quoll back into Gumbaynggir country in the future, we are not only restoring ecological balance, but also reclaiming our stories and dreaming. It is an opportunity to honor our ancestors, preserve traditional knowledge, and strengthen our bond with Country. Through these efforts, we can ensure that future generations inherit a landscape rich in biodiversity and cultural significance, where the echoes of our Dreaming stories resonate once again. The return of the Eastern Quoll to Gumbaynggir country would not just be a conservation initiative; it is a reaffirmation of our identity, values, and commitment and custodianship of Country.
It's a big day for WWF-Australia's Rewilding team, as we return eastern quolls to the NSW south coast. Our big 'quoll goals' are to reestablish our missing eastern quoll back in the wild in south eastern Australia. To do this, we're going to need more quolls in more places. It's time to be bold, test the un-tested, and work in partnership with everybody shares our vision - to get there by 2030! #RewildingAustralia

I am excited to see SINTEF Ocean and the CLIMAREST project taking on the problem of pharmaceutical pollution, especially in the High North ❄️🚽 A couple of years ago my colleague and the coordinator of Climarest, Ida Beathe Øverjordet lead the PharmArctic project. 🌊They found 📈High levels of Ibuprofen and Antidepressants, among other medicines 💊 in native marine species to Svalbard 🦀🦭 Together, we published a study on potential mechanisms to mitigate this pollution. Check out our study here 👇🏼 https://lnkd.in/dhZsJpnR ✍️Through a workshop and semi-structured interviews, we identified key factors: 🔹 Lack of fines or enforcement of current pollution regulations 🔹 High costs associated with upgrading Arctic infrastructure, such as wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) 🔹 Strong need for increased awareness of the issue Excited to see the continued progress in this important field in CLIMAREST! ☃️ The University Centre in Svalbard Framsenteret ECOPs Network European Marine Board European Commission Norwegian Environment Agency Norges forskningsråd
Next week, CLIMAREST's Anne Gaspers and Sahar Stevenson-Jones will be participating in #Bærekrafstuke in #Longyearbyen. They are so excited to launch the #projectprotectourwaters #socialcampaign that has been co-created with the help of multiple actors in #Longyearbyen and with support from BlueMissionAA. The campaign will focus on #oceanliteracy and sharing the important message that ONLY pee, poo and toilet paper should be flushed down the toilet, because everything you flush could end up in the ocean. The project is hopeful that this will reduce the amount of unwanted materials (like wetwipes, sanitary pads, condoms and confetti) ending up at the bottom of the fjord. Stay tuned for updates from the High Arctic! A massive thank you to Alexander Fathi for his support in creating the campaign video, and to CopyCat AS for printing the campaign stickers. A massive thank you also to: Hanne Margrethe Kvitsand, Ida Beathe Øverjordet, Laura Wendling, Longyearbyen lokalstyre, Visit Svalbard, Hurtigruten , Gjestehuset 102 - Svalbard, & PolarRiggen for all their support in helping us create this message together. (Really hope we haven't forgotten anyone but feel free to call us out if we have!) #missionocean #eumissions #horizoneu #dobæsjogdopapir #3ps

Our Who I Am Foundation volunteers in #Phoenix will be doing a Family Hike and Trail Clean-Up (PHX)! SATURDAY MORNING (November 25th) we will be cleaning up the Holbert Trailhead on South Mountain in South Phoenix! Difficulty: Difficult Access: Start at the Park Main Entranced. Take the first left on to Phoenix South Mountain Park. From this road, proceed to Holbert Trailhead to continue onto Holbert Trail. This trail offers a steady climb to the upper areas of South Mountain Park. Hike the extension trail that leads to Dobbins Lookout and be rewarded with a magnificent view of the valley below. The Holbert Trail also provides a route to connect with the National Trail just east of the T.V. Towers and west of Buena Vista Lookout. Distance: 2.5 mi Elevation Change: 1,100 ft. Hiking is an excellent low-impact workout, and is an outdoor activity delivering benefits beyond scenic and fun. Below are five reasons to hike with your kids: 1. Exercise. 2. Build self-confidence 3. Exposure to wildlife 4. Practice “Leave no trace” A great opportunity to talk about why we do not leave our trash in the park, and what happens to the litter that is left behind. 5. Unplug together We all know that kids spend a lot of time using digital media, and it is true for adults as well. Heading out for a family hike is a great way to take a break from your devices and connect with each other and the outdoors for a while instead. Make sure you dress appropriately!!
