Unity is a crucial aspect of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) because the accomplishment of any single goal necessitates the realization of all of them. Can we maintain faith in the SDGs when efforts for peacemaking have faltered, and justice and the protection of vulnerable populations from oppression have proven unsuccessful? The LESSON of 2023: Reflecting on the lessons of 2023, it becomes evident that the world is in dire need of a revival of the most essential and indispensable element: Humanity. Amidst the grand declarations of agendas for 2030 and 2050, the drafting of policies, and the creation of programs in the noble names of sustainability, entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment, we find a critical void: Human Rights. Mere documentation of these rights is futile unless actively implemented. The year has laid bare the truth that, before embarking on any initiative or program for positive change, we must acknowledge that human rights draw strength from fundamental principles and moral values, often absent in our contemporary societies. It is disheartening to witness societies grappling with self-deception, diverting attention from crucial matters while amplifying topics for marketability. Organizations championing projects on gender rights, water security, and various issues lose credibility if they neglect to advocate for human justice and protect the vulnerable from oppression. The paradigm has shifted, it is no longer about empty words but meaningful actions. As we step into the new year, let us pledge to prioritize the restoration of humanity, ensuring that our initiatives are grounded in the principles of justice, compassion, and genuine human connection. #justice #humanity #sdgs #action #policy #agenda2030 #sustainability #youth #unitednations

Monday's #GenderDay at #COP28 highlights that there is no climate justice without gender justice. The just energy transition must be underpinned by feminist principles to be truly just, moving away not simply from fossil fuel systems, but also from economic insecurity, inequality, and the systems of oppression underpinning fossil fuel capitalism, including patriarchy.   In this policy brief that our team prepared for Oxfam International and the Asia Feminist Coalition, we unpack the pathways towards a feminist just energy transition in Asia. We assert the need to challenge the current energy system, and emphasise the key principles which must be core to a feminist just energy transition in Asia, including to:   🔋Strengthen energy democracy through small-scale, locally-owned, locally appropriate and gender-representative energy systems; 👩🔧Address individual and systemic barriers to female labour force participation, including by advancing gender-responsive and care-sensitive policy frameworks; and 🌿Emphasise a rights-based approach, in which the rights of Indigenous Peoples and local communities are prioritised in the development of renewable energy projects.   #feministjustenergytransition #justtransition #justenergytransition #climatejustice #genderjustice   https://lnkd.in/epczPy97
