Eric Ng is never bored when he’s at the North Texas Food Bank. The Junior Kernel, which requires 64 hours of services at NTFB, volunteers up to three times a week during the summer, including at Kids Camp, where he helps teach 8 to 11-year-olds about hunger in their community. “There is never a dull moment,” says Eric, a rising senior at Plano Senior High School. By integrating the term “unattended death cleanup” into community education and response efforts, we can address both the prevention of these incidents and the importance of a specialised cleanup process when they occur.

#society #unitedstates #politics #economics Former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich and I agree, in principle, on everything about what ails America. We disagree, at the same time, on everything about how to fix it. The current tax regime of marginal tax rates by income bracket is good. What is not good are tax deductions and credits. Tax structure must be simple, hybrid of flat and progressive, both on personal and corporate income with zero deductions and credits or transfers to prevent elected officials from using fiscal policy for electoral gain. A Value Added Tax (VAT), as in Europe, on the supply chain and to the consumer can help states collect sales taxes. All tax collections can be automated to be collected at source of income and sale if the central bank #federalreserve moves to digital currency (CBDC) from paper and coin, making it very difficult to evade taxes. Tax avoidance will no longer be an issue because there will be nothing to deduct or claim credit for. People and corporations will then no longer have to file tax returns using expensive accountants and lawyers. And IRS no longer has to audit. Government is obligated to account for tax monies it collects and spends to the dollar and cent, in an annual receipt to the citizenry thanking us for paying government its salaries, benefits, and other expenditures to demonstrate productivity and effectiveness in delivering only pure public goods which includes effective supervision of self-regulation by the markets. To fix the problem of no citizen ever having to fall below the threshold of unable to pay for basic needs, social safety net including retirement security, unemployment compensation, and food assistance must be a public-private hybrid like Medicare and Medicaid funded by taxes on the full income of all individual tax payers, except disabled and orphaned which should be financed by tax redistribution by government as social services, with a law to mandate minimum savings toward retirement and unemployment in individual savings accounts not collected as social insurance taxes by the government for spending on other things. Corporate governance must be reformed to redistribute wealth equitably within a corporation, rather than taxing rich through the Dead Weight Loss (DWL) of government. Healthcare is ripe for disruption by eliminating close to 30% in administrative costs by automation, augmenting physicians for most illnesses with technology except the terminal which require tertiary care. Pharmaceuticals are already seeing disruption by the likes of Amazon and Mark Cuban, soon for most prescription medications. Preventive health care and low stress lifestyles by reducing alcohol and red meat consumption, junk food, not smoking or using hallucinogenics, and safe sexual mores will eliminate most contributors to rise in healthcare costs including heart disease, diabetes, and other expensive illnesses. The Fed’s primary objective must be near zero unemployment.
Massachusetts generated $1.5 billion for free school lunches and more by taxing millionaires. Meanwhile, Nebraska and Iowa opted out of free summer lunch programs. 175,000 Nebraska children and 240,000 Iowa kids will lose out on food assistance. Child hunger is a #policy choice.

Some of what I’m taking with me from Food Research & Action Center Anti-Hunger conference. 🌟Poverty and hunger are political choices. 🌟Invest in programs like WIC, SNAP, and school meals that are proven to reduce poverty and food insecurity. 🌟WIC is the ultimate “food is medicine” program. 🌟Cash assistance programs like the child tax credit and guaranteed income are addressing food insecurity. If some of these things sound familiar is because we’ve led on some of these at Education Leaders of Color as part of our policy agenda.
