We understand every child is unique and we are committed to providing a program that caters to their specific needs. That’s why we offer both one-on-one sessions and our Neurodivergent Youth Group Program over an 8 week term. Our group sessions of 1:4 ratio of therapist to children provide opportunities for social interaction, communication, cooperation and building valuable peer relationships. Studies consistently show that physical activity plays a pivotal role in improving the lives of neurodivergent children and youth including the physical, mental and social health. Recognizing the pressing need for support, our program is open to children with a current diagnosis and for those who find themselves on lengthy waitlists for diagnoses. We are committed to providing assistance when it’s needed most. https://lnkd.in/g9ZyTp2x #FitnessJourney #StrengthTraining #O2Active #ExercisePhysiology #exercisephysiologist #movementismedicine #O2Active #MoveWithPurpose #EP #Lifestyle #WellnessJourney #ClinicalExcellence #healthandwellness #EvidenceBasedPractice #PatientCareCentered #holistichealth #Rehabilitation #ChronicDiseaseManagement #InjuryRehabilitation #ExercisePhysiology #FunctionalFitness #PhysicalTherapy #MindBodyConnection #CommunityHealth #WellnessJourney #OptimalHealth #LifelongWellBeing #ClientFocused #fitnessforall #teamculture

Trauma-informed care is the umbrella term to ALL mindsets, policies and procedures, and therapy strategies where reducing harm & not causing trauma is the primary intention. In the speech world specifically, a lot of big SLPs are now talking about trauma-informed care as part of their niche, when actually, it is the overall umbrella. Within the neurodiversity affirming therapy movement, the goal is to avoid causing trauma to the individuals served when previously, the practicing we were teaching, such as masking and punishment for stimming, are proven to cause trauma and harm to the individual we were intending to “help”. If our offices and spaces are not accessible to disabled people, we are actively excluding them and actively causing harm. When I present on trauma-informed care, I often get asked why this isn’t the umbrella of nice-ness or compassion or empathy. Although those “raindrops” are part of the equation and important aspects, niceness does not ensure we are not causing harm. Under the umbrella, you will see terms that are mindsets or approaches to working with people. Ask yourselves “how do these practices ensure we are reducing OUR role in causing harm”? I created this graphic to help all professionals help understand the role in trauma-informed care. What are your thoughts? Like, comment, and share. #traumainformed #personcentered #slp #traumainformedcare #personcentered #childcentered #humancentered #dei #neurodiversity #neurodiversitymovement

Connecticut has a continuum of acute behavioral health services for youth that is consistent with national best practices, but they are at risk to fail until we put into place a sustainable funding approach. A small wireless surcharge -- which is how most states fund 911 -- would generate millions annually to fund these life-saving services for youth. That is already happening in California, Colorado, Delaware, Minnesota, Nevada, Oregon, Virginia, and Washington (and proposals are being considered in six additional states!). Check out my latest Policy Brief, co-authored with Gary Steck from Wellmore Behavioral Health, to learn more about this option, and a pathway to make it happen! https://lnkd.in/e55sEg2J

It’s Neurodiversity Celebration Week, and we wanted to shine a spotlight on our MC STOMP national agenda. The agenda aims to stop the over-medication of people with a learning disability, autism or both, in multicultural settings. As the West Midlands is diverse and includes many of the most challenged, deprived, and vulnerable communities, patients are more likely to be over-represented in mental health pathways. This makes them more likely to receive treatment with psychotropic medicines, which in some cases may not be appropriate. MC STOMP aims to: 💊 Reduce overprescribing of antipsychotics by increasing structured medication reviews. 🗣️ Encourage the implementation of positive behavioural support plans as an alternative form of treatment. Effective therapy with adolescents often involves their family. Trick: Use 'family homework' assignments to build communication and understanding outside sessions. For instance, assign a monthly 'date night' or 'movie night' where each family member takes turns choosing the activity. This encourages shared experiences and reflective conversations in a relaxed setting. At The Therapy Hub, incorporating these tasks has significantly strengthened family bonds and enhanced therapeutic outcomes. #FamilyTherapy #TherapyHomework #TheTherapyHub

A significant number of residents in long-term care (LTC) and assisted living (AL) settings are 18 to 64 years old, well below the average resident age of 83 years. Younger residents are more likely to have developmental or severe physical disability, chronic disease, and mental health conditions. The age- and illness-related differences make their #MentalHealth and well-being needs distinct. While the new standard CSA Z2004:24, Mental health and well-being in long-term care (LTC) and assisted living (AL) settings, addresses the needs of residents of all age groups, it also includes recommendations focused on younger residents. The standard https://bit.ly/3VPPWf5 outlines considerations for programming, activities, and relationships that can support the mental health and well-being of younger residents. The standard also highlights innovative practices that can be applied to the care of younger residents.

Youth and Family Engagement Coordinator at Cassie and Friends: A Society for Children with Juvenile Arthritis and other rheumatic diseases
LAST CHANCE TO REGISTER for this evening’s webinar on Navigating the Workplace with Rheumatic Disease. Teens and young adults have a lot going on - first jobs, friendships, university, moving away…and transitioning from pediatric to adult rheumatology care. It can be overwhelming - especially when it comes to navigating the workplace and striking the right balance between personal and professional wolds: - What will my manager think when I tell them I have arthritis? Will they take me seriously? - Will I have to explain to yet another person that even though they might not be able to see that I'm in pain? - How will trying to 'tough it out' at work affect my mental health? - What are my rights? - What are the best strategies for talking to my manager/workplace about my health needs? We’ll cover all that and more at 4:30pm PST / 7:30pm EST today. Bring your questions for our Live Q&A at the end of the session!
