In the heart of Texas, Austin's three rapidly growing counties - Travis, Williamson, and Hays - are consistently making the top 100 list for the fastest-growing regions. Despite the recent major upgrades to the Walnut Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant and the South Austin Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant, the city's northwest region calls for an innovative wastewater treatment solution. The Transcend Design Generator (TDG) has heeded this call. We're excited to announce our design for a compact, yet powerful wastewater treatment plant nestled near Bull Creek and Austin's primary water source, the Colorado River. It's worth noting that this isn't the Colorado River most folks know - this is Austin's own Colorado River, serving as the city's lifeline. Designed to accommodate an increase of 30 million gallons per day (MGD), this modern plant will cater to the primary city's estimated increase. By integrating advanced technology, this facility will prioritize efficiency with minimal environmental impact, ensuring the Colorado River's quality remains unimpaired. In this context, small doesn't mean less. Our design will embody a compact and efficient solution that doesn't compromise on capacity or performance, offering a targeted approach to wastewater management that meets the growing needs of northwest Austin. Leesburg, FL. to spend nearly $44 million to support the city’s rapid growth City of Leesburg, State of Florida - Leesburg city commissioners unanimously approved two resolutions this week totaling $43.876 million to expand the Turnpike Wastewater Treatment Facility and improve lift station #72. The Turnpike Wastewater Treatment facility capacity had been increased in 2022 from 3 million gallons per day to treat 4.5 million gallons per day under phase one of the expansion program. The projected growth in that area of the city caused by the expansion of The Villages necessitated that the plant be expanded to 6 million gallons per day capacity. The turnpike treatment facility expansion is budgeted to cost no more than $39.884 million and will be managed by the Wharton-Smith Inc. company of Sanford. Wharton-Smith, Inc. will act as the construction manager on this project which is projected to cost the city no more than $3.992 million. Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that the state's Natural Resources Commission will provide more than $42 million in loans for six water and wastewater projects. A portion of the funding will come through Arkansas' Clean Water State Revolving Loan Fund (SRLF) and Drinking Water SRLF programs, which receive money, based on congressional appropriations, through the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Among the fastest growing counties in the United States, Kern County, number 86 on the list, stands out for its intriguing character. This county, without a major metropolitan hub, still boasts impressive growth, possibly spurred by its proximity to Los Angeles. It might come as a surprise that Bakersfield, the county’s largest city, has significantly contributed to this growth. Kern County is a tapestry of intriguing cities, each with its own unique charm. It houses the city of Mojave, known more for its namesake desert, California City, the Aztec-inspired Tehachapi, and the famous Edwards Air Base. For our Transcend Design Generator (TDG) project, we’ve chosen a unique locale – the Edwards Air Base and its neighboring town, North Edwards. Together, they represent a population of nearly 4,000 residents. Considering the high water needs of the airbase, we’re looking at a daily flow of about 300,000 gallons. To cater to this, we’re designing a compact, efficient plant that utilizes Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) technology, combined with primary clarifiers and pile cloth filters. This solution is optimal for the low-population, high-use scenario presented by the Edwards Air Base. With TDG’s innovative approach, we’re able to tackle diverse wastewater treatment needs, even in surprising locales like Kern County. From major metropolises to air bases, TDG is ready to take on any challenge, proving that wastewater treatment design truly knows no bounds. On Tuesday, the Butte County Board of Supervisors directed Public Works to pursue recommendations outlined in our draft Landfill Master Plan. Since its establishment in the 1970s, the Landfill hasn't undergone major upgrades. The outdated infrastructure poses safety risks and inefficiencies that can be addressed through thoughtful improvements. Key Highlights from the 2023 Landfill Master Plan: 🔹 Addressing compliance with current regulations. 🔹 Balancing development needs while keeping fees reasonable. 🔹 Butte County's unique advantage: ample landfill space allows for cost-effective waste management throughout the 21st century. Proposals to modernize Landfill include: 🔹 A new access road & scale house 🛣️ 🔹 Public drop-off area 🚗 🔹 Modern administration building 🏢 🔹 A "reuse" area for sustainability ♻️ 🔹 Construction & demolition processing facility 🚧 Butte County is uniquely positioned with the capability to not only operate independently but also collaborate with the private sector to provide cost-effective, compliant services for our customers.

Stormwater in our rivers – it's a topic that's been in the news a lot this year, and for good reason. This is a major environmental concern and not something any of us wants to see. At PBJ Engineering Services, our work with water companies gives us a front-row seat to the industry's efforts in tackling these environmental challenges. We're all about supporting improvements in our wastewater infrastructure. And there's been some positive news on this front. In the last week, Southern Water has announced the installation of a new £1 million storm tank at Edenbridge Wastewater Treatment Works in Kent. This vast structure allows more stormwater to be held at the site instead of releasing it into the environment. This development benefits nearby rivers such as the Eden and the Medway. And with Southern Water committing £1.5 billion to clean our waterways, hopefully, it's the sort of thing we'll see much more of in the coming months. #WastewaterTreatment #WaterPollution
