“Why don’t you want to file a legal complaint?” The journey to justice for a survivor of sexual and gender-based violence, particularly through traditional legal pathways, is marked by several challenges, including: 👉🏽 Social stigma and a lack of trust; 👉🏽 Long-drawn, complex, mostly unfamiliar proceedings that often take away the agency of individuals; 👉🏽 Repeatedly needing to recount traumatic events in detail, with proceedings depending on survivors’ ability to describe events that they may not want to or be able to remember fully; 👉🏽 Lack of psycho-social support from a system that exacerbates trauma in the pursuit of justice. Tune into the complete episode to hear about retraumatisation of victims in the journey to justice, and the need for survivor-centric, trauma-informed services that prioritise survivors’ well-being and agency. Father, Disability and Family Violence Practice Leader, and advocate for addressing Gender-Based Violence and holding men accountable for their use of violence
From Djirra- Sharing stories, finding solutions, please see the below link to support: Help Aboriginal women escaping family violence Australia is facing a national crisis of violence against women. Here in Victoria, Aboriginal women are 45 times more likely to experience family violence than other women. And the number of Aboriginal women seeking support continues to rise – Djirra experienced a 22% surge in demand in the first three months of this year alone. While violence against Aboriginal women is increasing, and we are already devastatingly over-represented in family and sexual violence statistics, our frontline services and community-led solutions remain critically underfunded. This is why we URGENTLY need your help with a tax-deductible donation this end of financial year https://lnkd.in/gmS2XXbp

Keynote Speaker | Host of the 'SIMPLE brand' podcast | Helping you create loyal customers and loyal employees - all through the power of simplicity.
Sadly, modern slavery exists and it's closer than you think. Today there are 50 million people worldwide under someone else’s exploitative control. But you can help change that. Most people equate modern slavery solely with sex trafficking, but in reality out of 50 million people in modern slavery: - 19.9m are in forced labor in private or state-run companies - 1.4m experience domestic servitude in private homes - 6.3m are in forced sexual exploitation (1.7 million are children) - 21.9m are in a forced marriage to which they have not consented Thankfully, Hope for Justice and Slave-Free Alliance is working to bring an end to modern slavery and human trafficking. But they need your help. You can help them by donating here or at the link below: https://lnkd.in/gNnb9Y8j Together we can see families reunited, vulnerable people protected, and a world free from slavery and human trafficking. #nonprofit #charitablegiving #humantraffickingprevention #givingback

As the treasurer and trustee at Advance for the past 10 years, addressing the growing issue of violence against women and girls is a mission close to my heart – and I found the new report commissioned by the National Police Chiefs’ Council and the College of Policing very disturbing. It reveals a national emergency of “epidemic levels” and a staggering 37% increase in the number of violent crimes against women and girls in England and Wales between 2018 and 2023. With countless unreported crimes, these figures represent merely the “tip of the iceberg.” At Advance, we are dedicated to supporting women and young girls affected by domestic abuse and abuse in the criminal justice system. Though not widely known, Advance wields significant influence in local and national government regarding violence against women and girls. Thus far, we have supported 8,497 women and girls for the year ending March 2023. Recognising the critical need for early intervention, we have developed a targeted program aimed at school-aged girls, offering training and vital support to prevent future harm. This initiative is vital to stopping the cycle of abuse before it starts. To expand our reach and amplify our impact, we must move beyond relying solely on contracts and actively seek funding. We invite you to join us in this crucial endeavour, at our upcoming event in central London on October 17th, at Asia House, W1, from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. This event is an opportunity for you to learn about the prevention programs Advance provides for girls and teenagers in schools, hear directly the stories of survivors of domestic abuse, and discover actionable solutions to this urgent crisis. It’s an opportunity to be a part of the solution. As leaders of your business, please come along to learn more if you’re interested in being part of the solution. Please also reach out or introduce me to other individuals or organisations in your network who might be interested in supporting this important work. Whether financially or by spreading the word, your contribution can make a substantial impact. Together, we can make a meaningful difference and create safer environments and brighter futures for all vulnerable women and girls. Sign up to Advance’s event here. #AdvanceCharity #DomesticAbuse #Charity #DomesticAbuseCharity #WomenSupportingWomen

Keep in mind that these lists are not exhaustive but offer valuable insights into why individuals, regardless of gender, may hesitate to share their experiences openly. Join us in making a difference. Imagine the transformative power of just $1. It may seem small, but when combined with the generosity of many compassionate hearts, it becomes a force of change capable of shaping monumental differences in the lives of survivors.
