💡 AIA California congratulates the newly appointed Chair of the influential Housing and Community Development Committee: Assemblymember Chris Ward (D-San Diego). What's a key to his priorities?.... Read On. * 🌆 If you're interested in Assemblymember Ward's viewpoint on his new role, it's encapsulated in this quote, “As a representative of San Diego where the cost of living has risen dramatically to be the highest in the nation, I hear regularly from constituents the need to be stronger to increase the affordable housing supply throughout California and make the dream of owning a home a reality for working Californians once again. From needs to unlock barriers to housing production, assist local governments in meeting goals, lower the costs associated with new housing, and support renters struggling to keep up, I look forward to the impact our committee can make through our hard work ahead.” * ➡️ The Assembly Housing and Community Development Committee has jurisdiction over building standards, common interest developments, eminent domain, farm worker housing, homeless programs, housing discrimination, housing finance (including redevelopment), housing, natural disaster assistance and preparedness, land use planning, mobile homes/manufactured housing, redevelopment: housing, and rent control. * 🤝 AIA California looks forward to working with Assemblymember Ward on solutions to our state’s multidimensional housing crisis.

The research is clear: mixed-income housing is key to upLifting Orlando. 📊 70% of young adult Americans said that it was harder for them to afford a home than it was for their parents’ generation. In October 2021, about half of Americans (49%) said this was a major problem where they live—and this is up 10 percentage points from early 2018. Affording a home is now an American challenge; we need one another to learn how to handle this challenge best. For over a decade, Lift Orlando has been working with residents to create mixed-income housing opportunities, bringing beautiful homes to places like Pendana at West Lakes and Pendana Senior Residences. Both were created thanks to our phenomenal partner Columbia Residential. You can upLift your neighbor with Lift Orlando, too. THIS is an ACTUAL quote from a city leader I met with... "If we change zoning to allow for more homes, then our property values will go down. I would rather see the houses get built somewhere else." And THIS is why we have a housing crisis! Leaders who already have their nice homes making decisions that prevent others from ever obtaining one of their own. Yes for me, and no for thee. Exclusionary zoning at it's finest. We need state intervention... "The fact is, the single greatest threat to our future prosperity, the American dream and our strong communities is the price of housing... Our kids will never be able to call Utah home if we don't start building starter homes again." -Governor Spencer Cox #faceplam #housing #housingcrisis #housingforall #cityleaders #nimbyism #zoning #affordability #attainablehousing
