Did you know? 1 in 7 state primary schools in the UK don't have a library, rising to 1 in 4 in disadvantaged communities. This means that 750,000 children are missing out on the many benefits of reading – from better results at school to improved wellbeing. Low literacy stifles children's potential and hampers economic growth, especially impacting those in disadvantaged communities. That's why we've joined forces with more than 100 other UK businesses to address falling literacy levels and improve the life chances of young people by signing the National Literacy Trust's vision for Literacy Business Pledge 2024, with support from KPMG. Over the next year, we will work with our schools to to empower more children and young people with the vital literacy skills they need to succeed. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eVzHPvUD

Distrust is expensive. Not only are federal level debates emotionally taxing, consider all the gridlock that results when we don't trust each other. In a landmark study by the Pew Center titled "Trust and Distrust in America" (2019), they reveal how far American's have come down the hole of distrust. Regardless of who you are, we simply don't trust most elected officials to solve some of our biggest problems, even when we can agree that they need to be solved. But there is an overlooked narrative to all this doom and gloom. It is remarkable how durable trust in state and local governments has been over this same period of time! This could be due to many factors, but one possibility is government problem-solving at the state and local levels just feels more proximate, more accessible, more accountable, and more practical than any federal level effort. https://lnkd.in/gBq88ACB

Are you ready to be a part of something historic and have a Massachusetts where hunger is just a memory? Yesterday was the official launch of the Make Hunger History Coalition - a monumental leap forward in Project Bread's mission to end hunger across Massachusetts. How does the Make Hunger History Coalition differ from previous initiatives addressing hunger in Massachusetts? The #MakeHungerHistoryCoalition is a groundbreaking initiative that stands apart from previous efforts to address hunger in Massachusetts. Unlike past initiatives focused on single policy changes or programs, this comprehensive approach allows us to tackle hunger from all angles, prioritizing equity, movement-building, and systemic change. By uniting advocates, policymakers, businesses, service providers, and individuals with lived experiences of food insecurity, we're creating a powerful force for lasting impact and meaningful change. This coalition is the broadest effort of its kind in our state, bringing together diverse #stakeholders to tackle the many complexities that perpetuate #hunger and drive transformative change across Massachusetts. #MakeHungerHistoryMA coalition is about rewriting the narrative and taking bold steps to ensure everyone can access nutritious food. Crest Advisory was commissioned by the Youth Endowment Fund to conduct research on serious youth violence and vulnerability in England and Wales. The research was in three parts: an analysis of national indicators of serious violence and vulnerability; a survey of over 2,000 children and young people across England and Wales; and engagement with vulnerable young people in contact with a Youth Offending Service (YOS), and their support workers. Engaging with young people directly is vital to tackling violence. By including young people in research, we can gather more evidence about their experiences of vulnerability and violence. In this project we have developed a broader understanding of violence and vulnerability experienced by vulnerable young people through reviewing both qualitative and quantitative evidence in tandem. https://lnkd.in/dAnUYxCs

The journey from rags to riches is a narrative many have proudly lived, embodying the values of hard work and perseverance learned from the trials of past generations. Yet, in the pursuit of providing a 'better' life for their children, some inadvertently deprive their offspring of the very experiences that forged their own resilience and success. This disconnection from the value of hard work can lead to a sense of entitlement in younger generations, sparking concern and introspection among those who only wish to ease their children's paths. At WomenStrong we take trust very seriously – the faith of our grantee partners, our donors, and our own staff. We believe that trust-based relationships and grantmaking are key to social change. We also know that building and maintaining confidence in relationships requires us to be in a state of learning and reflection – and to be willing to make changes when trust erodes. So we’re pretty excited about a new guide from Spitfire Strategies' Executive Training Program, which offers a framework for evaluating trust and outlines 10 concrete behaviors and actions to earn and repair relationships. If you are looking to evaluate the culture of trust within your organization, or if you are looking to repair eroding trust, check out #Spitfire’s guide here, https://lnkd.in/eFhKDzeT Kristen Grimm Women's Funding Network Women's Philanthropy at Indiana University Tara Stone Medina, CFRE Laura Cansicio #TrustBasedPhilanthropy #TrustBuilding
