Did you know you can get Medicaid coverage for kids' mental health? Mental and emotional well-being is a critical part of physical health. The mind-body connection affects mood, confidence, social interactions, and motivation. Positive mental health helps to promote the development of critical competencies, resilience, and life skills. Experiencing a range of emotions throughout childhood is healthy. However, if your child consistently feels sad, worried, or isolated, they may benefit from extra help. PHP grantee partner Children First (formerly PCCY) First provides a helpful step-by-step guide for navigating Medicaid coverage for kids’ mental health. Learn more and access the guide (available in 5 languages) on their website: https://lnkd.in/eTX85xk7 Check back throughout July as we continue to share partner spotlights for BIPOC mental health month! #phillyhealth #healthequity #phillynonprofit #nonprofitsupport #communityhealth #philadelphia

Parenthood is an adventure marked with moments of doubt and questions, especially when it comes to mental health challenges. That's where we come in, to help families share success stories so that everyone receives better care. Is there a provider in your area that's provided excellent care, or a strategy outside the doc's office that's helped you get better? Share it with us in our anonymous, nonprofit platform, where everybody can review caregivers and facilities to ensure other families can benefit from the best mental health services. www.regroupnow.org/ #ParentingAdventure #MentalHealthSupport #ParenthoodJourney #CaregiverReviews #FacilityReviews

Have you ever wondered how grief shapes the world of a teenager? 🤔 In my shift from NYC education to mental health therapy, I’ve delved deep into the complexities of adolescent grief. But how do we help teens navigate these challenging waters⁉️ Grief in teenagers often looks different from adults. It can manifest as anger, withdrawal, or even a spike in risky behaviors. Recognizing these signs is the first step in providing support. But here’s where the paradigm shifts: Instead of just offering consolation, we need to empower teens to process their grief. This means creating safe spaces for open expression, whether it’s through art, music, or simply talking. Another vital approach is to help them maintain routines. Stability can be comforting during times of upheaval. However, it’s also essential to allow flexibility, recognizing that some days will be harder than others. For those in educational and community settings, understanding and addressing adolescent grief is crucial. - - - If you’re looking for resources or guidance in supporting grieving teens, 💻visit https://lnkd.in/e4Bz4Ysw. Last week marked a significant stride in advocating for essential changes to children's mental health. My participation at the House of Commons to discuss "the impact of Covid on children's mental well-being" was a pivotal moment. Thanks to Jason Baker and Healthwatch Essex for this incredible opportunity. I raised a crucial concern: Children often mask trauma, not immediately showing symptoms of poor mental health. Yet, what happens in 10-20 years when these children, having hidden the scars of lockdown, face severe mental health issues, struggle to maintain jobs, relationships, and daily life? Shouldn't we proactively intervene, especially in schools, before symptoms manifest? Preventing the need for treatment is key. Awaiting a response, their lack of answers shows the need and understanding for the area that is suppressed trauma in children. Let’s support with open discussions and push for: Early Intervention- Early Education- Early Rehabilitation Together we can make a difference! Burnie Works are hosting a process for community members to identify how the mental health system can be more effective and supportive of their needs. We are inviting parents/caregivers in Burnie, Ulverstone and Devonport that have navigated, or are navigating, the mental health system with their young person (12-25 year olds) to assist us with this project. We want to learn how the mental health system works for young people so that we can understand where the system is difficult to navigate. Burnie Works Community Knowledge Collectors will conduct interviews with parents/caregivers of young people seeking mental health support. This will provide us with: • a shared understanding of the challenges • common and different challenges across the communities • a shared tool to help guide systems-thinking in decision making The current system supports short term community funding, with limited opportunity for long term approaches. It is hoped that this work will help identify both long term and short-term opportunities. We need 6 families from Burnie to begin chats in October/November (Ulverstone and Devonport will be interviewed early in 2024). Please register your interest below. https://lnkd.in/gx78st2W
