On Tuesday 9 April, the ECOP Programme, along with partners representing the New England Aquarium, #TheRippleEffect, International Ocean Institute, GOAL Global, IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society and #SmartNET co-hosted the Ocean Decade Conference satellite event: “The inclusivity we need for the Ocean we want” at Barcelona Capital Nautica. The livestream recording is now available on the ECOP Programme YouTube channel: https://lnkd.in/d54mTquS A huge thank you to all guests, moderators, organizers and attendees, and especially the New England Aquarium for making the livestream and recording possible. The outcomes of this event aligned with the vision and mission of the UN Ocean Decade by: * Empowering ECOPs with the skills, knowledge, and networks necessary to contribute meaningfully to Ocean science, conservation, and sustainable development. * Facilitating collaboration and knowledge exchange across various geographies and sectors, promoting a holistic approach to Ocean governance and stewardship. * Supporting the implementation of the Ocean Decade objectives by cultivating a diverse and inclusive community of Ocean practitioners committed to advancing Ocean science and sustainability. Key objectives proposed collaboratively by panelists and attendants included: 🗺️ Changing the location of the events to places with easier accessibility to people from both the Global North and South, 🌊 Decentralizing the way we communicate with coastal communities, 🚧 Removing so-called ‘binary’ requirements of funding opportunities that lead to the marginalization of certain communities, countries and regions, 🧩 Creating greater incentives and opportunities to provide programs/projects with intersectoral solutions to intersectional problems, 🔵 Ensuring that when transitioning to circularity that communities are at the core of the beneficiaries, 🧑🎨 For solution design to be a product of collaboration across a variety of sectors and lived experiences. We do hope you will check out the recording and we look forward to continuing this vital discussion with you.

Tomorrow Solid Sustainability celebrates 1 year of (official) existence. We're happy with what we acheived these last 12 months (see https://lnkd.in/e4qyxzcv for an overview!) and we're grateful to everyone who supported us in 2023, financially, in-kind and morally. In particular thanks to Ollie Weijermars for our graphic design, to ARIA, Milieudefensie and Fossielvrij NL who funded our work this year in researching university-fossil ties, and friends and family. Also thanks to those who share our research, allowing us to make impact where it counts! In 2024 we look forward to doing more action-oriented research including: - a project together with Leids Steunloket Migranten aimed at increasing engagement with the energy transition and climate justice among migrants, - analysing the results of FOIs together with the Mapping Fossil Ties Coalition to understand how and why universities and fossil fuel companies work together, - supporting other groups/researchers elsewhere in Europe with mapping ties between academia and the fossil industry, - researching academic influence on tobacco policy and public health in the Netherlands See you in the new year!

Great to see the next set of cities with climate neutrality plans being awarded their Mission Labels, and that they are now receiving enhanced EIB advisory support for their implementation to the tune of €19m, as well as the new capital hub brokering private investment and cities. #missions #investmentplans

"We speak with IAF Executive director Christian Feichtinger in the lead up to the 75th International Astronautical Congress. Founded in 1951, the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) is the world’s leading space advocacy body with more than 500 members in 77 countries, including all leading space agencies, industries, research institutions, universities, societies, associations, institutes and museums worldwide. The Italian Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIDAA), one of the oldest Astronautical Associations worldwide and a founding member of IAF, will serve as the host of IAC 2024 and welcome you to Italy, one of the leading countries for space activities. The Italian Space Agency and Leonardo (ASI) co-host the 75th edition of IAC. The synergy among the national agency, the leading Italian aerospace company, and the academia, represented by AIDAA, was the primary strength of Milan’s bid and perfectly embodies the spirit of IAC, i.e., an event to gather all space players, share ideas and shape the future of the space exploration and responsible exploitation. Inspired by the motto of IAC 2022, “Space for all”, our efforts are directed towards organizing a fully inclusive edition of the International Astronautical Conference. The 3G activities promoted by the IAF represent the foundation on which IAC 2024 is organized to offer an inclusive event for all, regardless of gender, geography, and age. In 2024, Italy celebrates the 60th anniversary of the launch of the first Italian satellite, the San Marco, thanks to which Italy is counted as the third country in the world, and the first in Europe, to launch a satellite. Sixty years after the launch of San Marco, Italy is still one of the leading countries in space exploration and service. Therefore, the organization of IAC 2024 in Italy will be an outstanding opportunity to celebrate this historical national goal. Responsible Space for Sustainability. The motto contains a dilemma; space-based technologies are vital for the present social life and a sustainable future, but outer space is a finite resource, and we must preserve this asset for future generations. IAC 2024 aims to address this issue and propose appropriate solutions." Australia In Space TV Responsible Space for Sustainability - IAC, Milan, Italy 2024

Calling everyone planning to attend 2024 Ocean Decade Conference! The One Ocean Hub is organising a Satellite Event 9 April 6 – 7.30pm (Barcelona time) titled 'Presenting the Transdisciplinary Toolbox for Transformative Ocean Governance'. The event launches the toolbox the Hub is developing as the Decade Implementing Partner. The three-tiered event will consist of: a panel on the Hub’s ocean knowledge integration; a live performance by Empatheatre and conversation on the Hub’s art-based ocean research; and a dialogue forum on transformative ocean governance methods with the Marine Social Sciences Network and the University of Cardiff. The event is free and open for all and you don’t need to be registered for the Conference to attend the Satellite events. Come meet us and discuss synergies as we are now focusing on developing research proposals for new research trajectories building on the innovations and impacts of the One Ocean Hub research and partnerships. As our current funding is coming to an end this year, we are actively seeking funders to continue co-developing innovative solutions for sustainable development. “Our vision for the One Ocean Hub legacy is to advance and expand learnings and lessons from Hub experiences from over the past 5 years, and to continue to refine and further develop our innovative action and participatory research approaches co-produced through fair international partnerships – for the next phase of the Hub. Our mission is for Hub legacy to have direct impact on the implementation of the SDGs, the climate change agenda and on improved human-nature relationships beyond the ocean realm”, says Philile Mbatha, Deputy Director of the One Ocean Hub.
