Prepared International (PPI)’s Post

🇮🇸🇸🇪🇳🇴🇩🇰🇫🇮The Nordic Host Nation Support (#HNS) Table-Top Exercise (#TTX), developed and delivered by Prepared International (PPI), together with the #IcelandicCivilProtection, has officially concluded.    🤝 This 3 full-day exercise, driven by our participants, provided a significant opportunity for countries from the Nordic Cooperation to come together and practice one of the three objectives of the #NordicCooperation for 2025: Having a resilient and functioning HNS system.    🇪🇺The exercise underscored the great availability of support to Iceland, primarily from Nordic Cooperation countries, as well as the UCPM, NATO, UN expertise, and colleagues from bilateral partnerships, such as the USA and the UK.   💡During the Hot Wash-Up, #PPI identified several lessons that will guide future exercises in Iceland and the broader Nordic region. Some of these lessons include:   ► There is no one-size-fits-all solution for HNS; each system is unique and requires a tailored design. However, it's crucial to understand each other's systems and learn from one another. ► The HNS training course designed by PPI for Iceland is essential. Participants in the exercise noted the significant advantages they gained thanks to the training course, when compared to their peers. ►  It is important to have more inclusive exercises that promote cooperation and collaboration across various levels of governance, including political, diplomatic, command chains, non-profit organizations, and neighboring nations at their respective levels of governance. ►  The Nordic engagement, knowledge sharing, and exchange of experiences have strengthened Nordic cooperation and identified shared objectives to enhance collaboration. ►  It's essential to have an HNS focal point from Iceland at the Nordic Cooperation to maintain communication and information sharing regarding HNS during disasters and preparedness. ►  Emphasize the importance of assessing the need for assistance. Despite individual countries’ efforts to remain self-sufficient, timely recognition and request of assistance avoids overloading the national system and improving overall emergency response.   🙏 PPI was delighted to witness the motivation and passion of Iceland's response community, as well as the strong commitment of the Nordic countries to HNS. It was an inspiring exercise for all involved. We extend our gratitude to the Icelandic Civil Protection for their hospitality. 🗓 PPI will continue its work on HNS next week in the beautiful #Caribbean to prepare for the next #Hurricane season. #CivilProtection #HostNationSupport #NordicCooperation #UCPM #EU #InternationalAssistance #ResilienceBuilding #PreparedInternational Photo Credits: PPI Archive
