Curious about what APC-supported projects do to help accelerate the UK's transition towards net zero? You can find out about projects, past and present, on our "Funded Projects" page 👉 https://okt.to/aGsM3N 👀 Here's a taster of the latest to whet your innovation appetite 👇 The Tyre Collective (Technology Developer Accelerator Programme) is developing the first on-vehicle device to capture tyre wear at the source, using electrostatics and airflow to attract tyre particles, which can then be upcycled in a variety of applications creating a closed-loop system. With this system, tyre wear could even potentially be recycled into new tyres! 🚗 👉 https://okt.to/FydVtD YASA (Collaborative Research & Development), through Project Re-Gen, aims to develop a high-frequency, high-voltage dual inverter with a pioneering dual-redundant braking system, helping to realise significant weight and cost savings while increasing regenerative braking potential in BEVs. ⚡ 👉 https://okt.to/GiKCcO VIRITECH, Intelligent Energy, and HORIBA MIRA have formed Project ICEbreaker (Advanced Route to Market Demonstrator) to develop the powertrain for a prototype fuel-cell HGV featuring new technology to radically increase efficiency and a lighter weight. ⚖️ 👉 https://okt.to/0xmyNg #ukinnovation #ukmfg #BEV #EV #Hydrogen #FCEV #HGVAutomotive #UKautomotive

🌟 The future of electromobility with advanced inverter technologies 🚗 Fraunhofer IZM is working with partners from the automotive industry on solutions for the electromobility of the future. One project is focused on developing inverters with continuous load capability, which should significantly increase the performance and efficiency of electric drives. 🌱 The goal? More efficient powertrains, less power loss and more sustainable electric vehicles. 🛠️Overheating of components often limits the performance of electric vehicles. The solution is an optimized inverter with improved cooling management that operates at lower temperatures, reduces losses, and enables longer full-load use. Battery & EV – Is the party over? Today marks the end of the Battery Event Lyon 2024, after a week packed with press releases due to the Paris Motor Show which opened its doors on Monday. These two events have echoed a certain gravity in the statements of leaders at the forefront of the transformation towards clean mobility according to the criteria of the "EU Green Deal". Sentiments oscillate between the risk of inevitable industrial catastrophes and a reasonable optimism that contrasts with the thunderous announcements of recent years. Automobile, battery, and equipment manufacturers are all searching for the right balance to work with Chinese technology and know-how rather than against it in a confrontation that would be fatal. The components of the future Renault Twingo, the Stellantis and Leapmotor announcements illustrate this, as is the case in Germany. On the battery side, the shift towards new chemistries to stay in the battery race for entry-level vehicles is underway, but without the cursor being set, nor the recipes that will prove to be winners in the long term : LFP, LMFP, Na-Ion, NMX, and others to come in the coming decade... with the associated recycling issues. What can Rockwell Automation do in this context? It's simple: what we do for so many other industries that have also gone through high-risk revolutions may be less visible to the general public. It requires building a trusting relationship over time, providing industries with the technologies that make a difference, and creating bonds while maintaining impeccable ethics. This is our culture. "Make it Matters" is the slogan of our Automation Fair event in Anaheim, where we will have a special welcome for the automotive and battery industries.

Patrick Fruth, CEO Division Mobility at TÜV SÜD, participated this week in the panel discussion “The Global Transformation of the Automotive Industry“ at the #GSS2024 of the Global Solutions Initiative in Berlin. He discussed with Dr. Karoline Kampermann (Verband der Automobilindustrie (VDA) e.V.), Shuva Raha (Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW)) and Leonis K. Petschmann (Vindelici Advisors) the role of policy related certification and testing of vehicles by independent third parties against the background of the increasing electrification of vehicles and their important contribution to decarbonization. Here are some insights: • It is important to increase consumer confidence in the technology in order to achieve a rapid increase in the share of e-vehicles (EVs). A key to this is the safe operation of battery electric vehicles throughout the entire lifecycle of the battery. • Therefore, the battery as central element of EVs, should be included in the regular inspection as part of the periodic technical inspection in order to enable safe use over many years and to maximize the contribution to CO2 reduction. Standardized or legally required regular inspections by independent third parties shall create the necessary trust. • Another important building block in the transition to sustainable mobility is digitalization. It enables the monitoring of the real consumption of EVs and thus their real contribution to CO2 reduction. • Furthermore, the new EU Battery regulation requires a digital battery passport containing the essential material and performance data. Such a battery passport becomes a CV through a periodic examination, as the condition of the battery is regularly checked and stored. It can be accessed via a QR code. • Legal principles and requirements are also important, such as quality controls during production, the establishment of safety standards for production and use, regular inspections, effective recycling and disposal systems to minimize environmental and health risks, as well as continuous research and development for improved technologies and more environmentally friendly alternatives. #TÜVSÜD #Mobility #EVs #electricvehicles #PTI #CO2Reduction #EUBatteryRegulation
